Bills Custom Calls

It was a pleasant evening winds were light with some gusts up to maybe 15 mph out of the West. The sun was bright and setting and temps about 50.After seeing a nice buck hanging out on my plantation of 4 acres,of mostly trees, and the rut is near I decided that this evening would be a good time to bag him.Dressed and out the door I take a walk of about 200 yards west, and sit on the ground, wait a few minutes and get out my doe bleat and blow it a couple times, wait 5 minutes and blow again.I hear a squirrel barking off to my right about 60 yards down hill from me.Yes this has happened to me before and I bagged a 14 pointer that field dressed 220 pounds in this same area.I use my doe bleat a few more times, and I can tell the squirrel is getting closer,if nothing else I am calling in a squirrel  :laf: I don't like to hunt right up to dark 30 so I wait about 20 minutes after I quit calling. In that time I hear voices off in the distance coming from the same way the squirrel was  but further out.Probably on the neighbors so I pack it in and come home.About 30 minutes later sitting down to supper and almost dark I look out the window towards where I was hunting there he stands 100 yards from the house  :doh2: Daylight enough to see it was the buck I was looking for but dark enough that I wouldn't have shot him anyway. After supper I get the flashlight shine it out the back door and there he stands 30 yards from the house and taunting me  :eyebrownod: I will try again this morning.

Yea, jacklighting deer is not a good thing to do.  Being able to walk out your door and hunt must be great.
