Bills Custom Calls

Went out to hunt some birds this morning.Since they are calling for 40 mph winds today and we already were
getting 10 mph winds when I left the house I figured the valleys would be a good spot, and it was.
I was all set up waiting on daylight.
About 6:00 am I started with some soft clucks and soon after I heard a fly down behind me 100 yards away.
Then 5 minutes later and a few more clucks another fly down about the same distance in front of me,Cool Right

So I start calling more aggresively hopeing to hear a gobble or 3,but nothing. Then 20 yards in front of me a turkey flies off the roost going away from me couldn't tell wheather it was a hen or tom so I call some more and no response
I break stand and go around to get in front of the one that just flew down and start calling again no response again and never seen the birds again

My question is were these hens that haven't nested yet and if so where are the gobblers to take care of these hens,or are the toms just being quite and taking care of the hens cause he knows where they are

Sounds like you were busted before ya started Bill
But if the birds arent talking back just stop talking and wait.....The first few yelps told them you were there and the fly down told ya they were looking for a hen and if you already called they already knew where to go.
When I was there with ya the birds were answering me but even then I would let him gobble 2-3 times before calling to him.
when they are quiet you do the same.

I don't like to move around if they are flying down that close to me. Give them some time 1st. Plus what Al said.

I figured it was my mistakes

But I didn't even hear any birds off iin the distance either. Is the wind a factor with turkey's or am I just trying to
cover my mistakes

Al Like the 2nd morning we went hunting and the tom was gobbling on roost and we heard those others off a ways. This morning not a sound anywhere other then crows being very vocal right close to where I was set up.
I was sure one would atleast shock gobble

Here's my $.02 worth.

You went hunting this morning and posted at 7:07am (cst)?  Try staying in the woods longer.    Patience, grasshopper, patience.  AND DON'T BE MOVING AROUND SO MUCH!

When I first started turkey hunting I did the exact same thing you are doing now, Bill.  It don't work.  Trust me on that.   :nono:

I am on EST That put me in the woods for a little more then 2 hours and the winds are picking up speed
I don't like being in the woods when the winds are strong

But I do understand what you are saying

Sometimes when they are acting like this I do not even leave the house till about 9:30am or so.
When they are quiet they are usually hened up and they wont gobble till they are done for the morning.
