2 days off...

Well two days off is just not enough, was going to try out my new to me video camera coyote hunting in the morning. But got a fire call at about 3:00 and asked if I was available and being the overtime hoar that I am I said sure. So headed to the Beaverhead/Deerlodge NF at 0500. Fire is at 300 acres in sub alpine fir and lots of beetle kill, I think this one will get a little larger. Anyway I bought a used Canon XL1s the guy I bought it from bought a few of them for weddings and decided that filming weddings sucked at put them up for sale. Downside no viewfinder just the eyepiece.

This fire is kicking our ass, every time we make headway, winds change, tree falls across the line ect. Off to the races the fuels are reacting like its mid august, not june. Steep ground just miserable. Three more starts locally all have gone over 1000 acres in a few hours, gonna be an exciting summer.

It we don't get rain you might be fighting forest fires around northwest Ohio.

Not really Jim, I basically get paid to go camping. I have to do some work but my office is outdoors. I get to see ground that probably has not had foot prints in quite a few years. Couple years ago found a name and date from the 1800s scratched into some sandstone in new Mexico, it had a juniper bush growing in front of it cut the bush down to put handline in and found some old time graffiti  . Well lunch is over back to work.

That would be SOOoo cool. I've always wondered if there's anything left to discover in some of those desolate areas.
A guy from work goes to Colorado every year with no destination, and takes the four wheeler up into the mountains and says some of the stuff you find is amazing.

Well two more shifts and I time out and get to go home and sleep in a bed and not to mention a warm shower, this last two weeks has been fast paced, the hills have been getting steeper as I get older. My pack seems to weigh 60lbs but is only 41lbs, I keep checking it for rocks to see if these kids are messing with me. Well we are sleeping in a ball field tonight I watched every one set there sleeping bags on the nice green grass, I set up in the yellow grass knowing the sprinklers aren't hitting that area. Hopefully at about three in the morning they come on. Well time for bed.

Sounds good John, looking forward to the call. Today is my last shift, wake up tomorrow go through the demob process and drive home take hot shower. Then its laundry and beer. Then play with new video camera.

Well back at work, did laundry, slept, bought new pistol Taurus 1911, slept, paid bills. Ready to go to the next fire. We are in fire restrictions so I can not shoot my new pistol yet.

You need a wife and about four kids to even the score....this just, I say this just aint fair.
