While my grandfather had one of the pipe cleaners (like you posted earlier) several of my uncles smoked cigarettes. Before they started using the paper matches they used stick matches that came in a box. This was used to hold those match boxes.

Yup, a match box holder. Hard to find the "strike anywhere" matches any more. Supposedly considered a "hazardous" material.

The old kitchen matches are fun to shoot out of a BB gun against a rock or piece of concrete.  Not very good accuracy or all that much distance, but it does make a nice pop when it ignites.
