I wanna talk to a trapper who targets Coyote to ask some questions about a couple of subjects. I think it would help me understand Coyote habits better. It would also help me set-up and call better to.
Anyone willing to give me some info, give me a shout!
Thanks
Stu or Jerry H are probably your best bet but I'll tell what little I know. What is it you got on your mind?
Also Randy Roede, he makes a living doin this stuff.
Jerry and Randy have forgotten more about yote trapping then I know, but like nailbender, your more then welcome to pick through the rubble. Brent is another good source.
Well ... I put out a "bakers dozen" of the KB 5.5 Compound Laminated traps today for a coyote job I was hired on. Hopefully ... I'll have some pictures for yall tomorrow.
204 my pm is always open!!!
Good luck OKtrap
Randy I'll PM you.
Well, no coyote on this mornings check. But I thought I would share these with yall anyway.

Both taken in the KB 5.5 Compound Laminated. I also had one trap dug up and urinated on.
Opening day here in Oklahoma for Fur Bearer Season ... but I thought I'd share these. I got another dern skunk also, but didn't get pictures of it. The Opossum was taken in a Lil Griz Getrz ... the Skunk and Bobcat in the KB 5.5 Compound Laminated. Talk about a thrill for the kids. The Bobcat weighed 23 pounds.

Sorry ... no coyotes ... and it's bugging me that there were none. They have been watching me work out on property, so I know they are around.
Nice shots, wow :yoyo:
Nice looking cat there, I can imagine the thrill that was getting that pole on him :eyebrownod: Ya better get him skinned out, looks like he's getting perdy stiff :laf:
I'm gonna get it mounted. It's my first ever Bobcat ... because I never target them. Now that all may change.
Nice pics Reg! Boy I 'd love to get one of those cats.
Ask away 204. I'm no pro, but I catch my share of PA coyotes. Maybe I can help too.
Cool pics guys, keep em coming.
Today was my Wifes first day on the line ... where we found this double awaiting us. A male and female yote. The female is the one Jennifer is holding, and red tone in color. The male is the gray ... and a bit smaller. Oh, and both were very healthy. The gray looks to be mangy, but is not. He is soaking wet.

These two ladies stopped by thnking I had domestic dogs laying on the driveway. When they got out of their car ... they were "Animal Right's Activists" ... 45 minutes later with some free education ... they got back into their car with a new understanding & I got a new contract out of it. You gotta just love educating people about the "Hollywood" misconception of fur harvesting. I even did the hand in the trap demo for them.
I know just about nothing on trapping. Explain "Hand in the trap demo"
It's just when we purposely stick our hand into a trap, set it off, allow it to close on our hand ... to prove traps DO NOT BREAK BONES like Hollywood and Anti's would like people to think.
oh im gonna have to try that :eyebrow:
browning204,
Just seen this browning, been out of town. But your welcome to give me a call. I will be happy to help if I can.
Nice looking critters OkTrap!
Brent
Thank you ...
Basin Boy will be back in a few days when he is released from the BEAR trap that he stuck his arm in. :innocentwhistle:
Jerry
Here he is, a young Tom. Second ever for me, and second of the 2007-08 season.

Coon are holing up here to, but we've been hovering the zero degree mark. I'd say skip the coon...bag some more of those cats :eyebrownod:

Hey browning204, What was it you were wanting to know?
204 ... what information were you looking for?
Following is what the day (12-08-07) held for myself, and my good friend Greg. Both are Male Yotes. This is Gregs' first year to trap ... therefore he is learning. And in learning ... he is a very good student. I will detail the pictures as they are posted. We got 2 more coyote today.
This is me & the 1st of the day.
This is Greg and the 1st yote of the day. Part of any handling of wildlife, is knowing proper handling techniques to keep from causing undue harm to the animal, or yourself.
This is the set where the 1st yote was taken. These next three pictures are of the set remake that Greg made for the first time. I think he did a pretty good job.
After coyote was removed. Severe Trap Circle.

Set remake

Remake blended to surroundings.
The first Coyote has first stage signs of Sarcoptic Mange on the tips of its ears. This is the only yote of 6 I have taken so far with signs of mange.

Me & the 2nd Yote of the day.

Greg & the 2nd Yote
(http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c129/PrideofTexas/DSC01041.jpg)
Yotes are dangerous and fast, make no mistake about it or you will get injured for sure. The next two pictures were taken at a speed shutter setting, about 1 second apart. Notice the position between the first and second pictures. It only took Greg a single step toward the yote for him to turn around that fast.

I hope yall enjoyed ... I know Greg and I did.
I thought about sticking my hand in the trap. Then i decided it was probaly a bad idea.lol
OKTrap I hope you keep the pics coming, I really enjoy them!
Here ya go ... these were from this morning 12-09-07. 3 female Coyote and 1 male Raccoon.

I could reply to this post and type until my fingers bleed, expressing how much I enjoy those photos. Seriously...live trapping pictures just have a way with me, and I cant get enough of em :eyebrow:
But with all due respect, I think the author of this thread and his question at hand are getting ignored here and buried behind a montage of "this is what I got today" pictures.
And please dont stop posting the pics, but I think they need to be put into a different thread. Unless they are being used to answer the guys question.
I'm not trying to be a hard ass...just starting to feel bad for the guy

Hey browning204, What was it you were wanting to know?
Yep, that's what I was thinking a while back.
I understand completely, and I myself have asked .204 what information he was looking for. The pictures were posted to kinda' show I might know something that could help 204.
I didn't mean to jack the thread, and as it was not my intent, I apologize for it.
But I'm still waiting to find out what information 204 was wanting.
QuoteAnd please dont stop posting the pics, but I think they need to be put into a different thread. Unless they are being used to answer the guys question.
Jim, could you move the pictures to nother post?
Thank you:
Yeah I could move the posts but it would kill the thread completely, since I can't grab individual posts. I have to pick a point and take everything after it.
There's tidbits of info between the pic threads that I'd want to leave in here.
