I was going to take a friend out this morning to see if he could get a turkey with his bow, but he cancelled on me last night. So I headed back out by myself.

The turkeys came down about sunrise, but for some reason they shied away from my decoys. Normally they will fly down and some will come straight to the decoys, but not today. I eventually had at least eighty in the field in front of me, but none came closer than forty-five or fifty yards and they were slowly meandering away.

I just kept calling. And then, about fifteen minutes after the first ones flew down, a group of four hens walked out of the woods, spotted my decoys and headed towards them. When they got up to the decoys, one gave me a broadside shot and I let fly.

The gun season opens on Saturday and I hope to get one with my .410 handgun, but if that doesn't work out I'll be back after them with the crossbow. Wish me luck.

Number three for the fall season.

My blind has worked well for me this year.

(I'm so jealous of all those turkeys you can hunt!)

This is what happens when you shoot them too close with a 3 1/2 inch magnum  :innocentwhistle:

Pat,
Dave and I hunted for 2 days straight last weekend for turkeys and never came across a scratching, let alone a bird!  You make us jealous with turkey envy. LOL!  You are the "turkey magnet".   :highclap:

That's a pic of a grouse shot with a 22-250!

Pat, O Slayer of Turkeys, I used to think coyote101 referred to the course you teach on calling coyotes but now suspect that 101 is the number of turkeys you shoot per year.

Dave,

I am no turkey magnet, but I am blessed to have access to a very target rich environment. Turkeys are everywhere this year. I just get out there early, put out a couple of decoys, and call like an idiot. Turkeys have showed up every time this year. I hope it continues tomorrow.  :fingerx:

I really like my Super Comanche .410 also,  I almost think it throws a better pattern then the Contender:
