I saw where we are going to have some people that may come to the LBL get together but do not plan on actually hunting. I wondered if it would be legal (without buying licenses and permits) for those people to tag along with hunters if they so desired.  Too make sure of the regulations I called LBL this morning and asked.

Obviously, anyone hunting will need both the hunting license (Ky. and/or Tn.) and LBL hunting permit. Plus, when applicable, a hunter safety certificate (see the LBL & hunting regulations of the state you plan to hunt).

NO state hunting license or LBL permits are required as long as you do not personally possess or take control of someone’s firearm. This applies even while in the company of hunters. Simply put… you are considered to be hunting if you have a firearm (archery equipment… etc.) in your hands. Someone gives you their gun to hold and you are considered to be hunting.  Get caught without the proper licenses/permits and you can/will be cited and possibly hung.

Be safe out there, we want to see you all back again next year.

Thanks for checking this Chet. We had once before and learned it was OK.  For those wanting to do this , pack a video and be extremely alert. Things happen fast in there. Jimmie

Good point... Take the camera, you maybe lucky enough to get a shot of the notorious Wild Man in KY or even the ever elusive LBL Silverback.  I've heard The Enquirer pays big $$ for exclusives on the strange and unexplained. :laf:

Some of those 'ol boys down in the LBL have no teeth, wear bibs and say things like "ya got a purty mouf".  Be careful.   :holdon:

No problem with the natives.... just tell those good ol' boys your name is Billy Bob, drink Blue Ribbon beer, own a framed 8"X 10" autographed picture of Daisy Duke (from the Dukes of Hazard) and have a cousin named Bopeye.   :eyebrow:

My cousin called me and we were wondering the who, what, when and where of the permits and licensing. Should we get them on line or is there a place to get them once we get there?

I need help getting my licesing and permits  as I am out of money now. Its all tied up just getting me there and food once we get there.

You can get permits at Golden Pond and Aurora has licenses.

If you are hunting the KY side, stop at any Wal Mart.  They sell licenses and LBL permit.

HaMeR, if you are coming through KY anywhere near Owensboro, stop by Whittaker's Guns.  They are the largest in KY with over 6,000 guns.   :eyebrow:

I can't remember what road it is on.When we left the Campground we made a left out of the gate went just a short piece and made a right on a gravel road went just a short piece and made a right on a blacktop road.Went across the lake (on a bridge of course)and at the top of the hill was a BP station that sold the LBL permit and hunting license then on out the road was a nice little diner on the left and kitty corner from the diner was a little gun shop.

It has been 2 years since I was down there but I am sure I can find it

We will be within 30 miles or so of Owensboro I believe. But it will also be around 2AM.  :laf: :laf:  If the weather turns crappy on us we just might have to make a road trip. I've wanted to go there for a while now. I hear they usually have 100 or so Coopers there at all times.  :eyebrow:  I can't afford one of those but I wouldn't mind seeing one in person for a change. We'll find it Bill.

Yeah, they have a bunch of cooper rifles.  Some have their factory shot target hanging on them.

I am planning on letting Kurtis carry a gun this year.He is 9 years old and is still under the apprentiseship program here and has not taken the hunters safety course yet.

My Question is does he need a hunting license and a LBL permit to be able to carry a gun

Bill,

According to the current hunting regs, Kurtis does not have to have a hunting license or LBL permit.

Resident and nonresident kids under the age of 12 are not required to purchase licenses and permits, except the elk lottery application, elk quota hunt permit, out-of-zone elk permit and bear permit. (p.6)

No he does not. Youth under the age of 12 can hunt without liscenses and permits, but must be accompanied by an adult who is in a position to immediatly take control of the firearm.

Thanks Pat and Ed.

I was sure I was told this before, but then I was asked if I was sure Kurtis didn't need license and permit, and it got me to thinking

Thanks again

He can set with me.  :laf: :laf:

It's better to have the knowledge & not need it than to need it & not have it.
