    Mighta been 20yds with the Marlin MachII!! This pup whistled at us from 2 different areas around the bale. After several whistles it decided to climb up into the tower for better surveillance. BIG mistake!! The Huntress,, & cameraman who remains nameless thru the credits again,, seen the little tyke at the same time. The cameraman mistakenly asks the apparently stupid question of,, "Think you can put one thru the weeds?". Answered by " :doh2: YEAH!!!!!".  So once the camera was loaded & ready to rock The Huntress,, on the camerman's command,, proceeded to roll the youngster off the bale!! It jumped off the bale at the crack of the MachII.  So we gave it a few minutes to reach it's expiration date then proceeded over to the other side of the bale. It went about 8yds before it ran outta time. Pulled a little of the lung out on the exit. Only shot we had but it was a goodun!!

The sharp whistle you hear is from the groundhog. They have differnet whistles for danger, all clear & such. I don't know the particulars since they didn't offer that language in high school WAAAAAYYYY back when.  :innocentwhistle:

WOW is about the only thing that can be said about the camera operator.  I mean whoever he/she was they no doubt have had years of experience and it shows.  I can see this being added to film schools all over the world as examples of precise camera angles, locked on focus, and all in all just how it should be done.  It might even be shown as a way to get a woman out into the wilds of nature.

As you know I am fluent in several animal "languages" and the whistle that you heard is generally translated as, "Ah, shit!"

Tell that shooter that I am glad to see her back behind the rifle.

Well done Diane and Glen!  That was well worth the wait.  Gotta love those little Mach 2's.
I believe Mr. Jerry nailed the translation of the hog whistle down to tee.  :laf:
I'm surprised that hog went as far as he did?  Tough little hombres.
Oh Glen...You would probably be wise (and save yourself the "I can't believe you even asked me that look") by not even asking Diane if she can make the shot.  Once again, she's centered the cross hairs, and threaded the needle. :congrats:

Jim,

Tell HaMeR that he can't say things like that.  I DEMAND that he read the TOS.  He is in violation just thinking about it and again, I DEMAND that YOU tell him to quit.  Also, don't tell him that I was the one that said anything.

Diane popped one with the FireBall Wednesday too. She was shooting about 50yds or so. She had this confirmed kill & thought she hit the 2nd one. The 221 doesn't always wreck em & leave a blood trail so maybe it made the hole to die. We'll have to wait & see on that one.

I'm getting jealous now. :laf:  I haven't had the crosshairs on a hog in a while.  Meantime, good shooting Diane.
Glen, I have some .22 caliber RBT 52g Hollow Point, Calhoon bullets that I'll send you. They call them "bubble butts".  They are known for their "launching" properties.  You can load them up in your .221 Fireball, or .222 Remington.  They shoot really good, and should eliminate any run offs due to their explosive characteristics.  I got a pile of them here. I'll send you some No Charge.  So if you are interested let me know?

Heck yeah I'll give em a try!! Prolly run em thru the 222. I have some 34gr Calhoon DHP's for the 204 but they wouldn't group worth a darn in mine. Of course it was factory fodder from HSM tho.

Yep, that one is a thief.

In looking at that first picture it sure doesn't look like 9 steps from your foot to the dead groundhog.  But I do realize that steps "will vary" from location to location.  So good work.

Saturday

Ok. So I get home from work Saturday afternoon & set down for lunch. Once that is all packed away the conversation turns to "Do you want to go look for a couple groundhogs?"  Which translated means "I'm ready to go & you're driving".     So off we go to one of our killing fields. As we slowly rise over the crest in the gravel road & bear down on the field opening we see this one standing up. So I pull in & stay in the truck as the Huntress gets out of the opposite side. She gets her chair, mono pod & rifle all set up. I grab the camera & set it on video. Just as I'm zooming in on the re-emerged subject I hear this tell tale "crack" from the 221FireBall. Another head shot hog.

(http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee217/BrightwoodTurnings/hunting%20photos/IMG_20130629_162252_806_zps10ee57cb.jpg) (http://s228.photobucket.com/user/BrightwoodTurnings/media/hunting%20photos/IMG_20130629_162252_806_zps10ee57cb.jpg.html)

So I drag myself outta the truck & grab my trusty 17HaMeR & head across the front side checking for activity as Diane goes up thru the middle of the field to set & watch for a hog I seen out back a couple days earlier. I don't get 300yds from the truck when I hear the same report as I heard merely minutes ago. The Huntress spied a little one about 35yds across the small ravine. In thru the chest & out it's back. #2 down down!!

I have given this considerable thought and Glen I hate to be the one to break this news to you, BUT Diane is just using you.  If you didn't have a rifle (that she can use), ammo (that she can shoot), a vehicle (that you can drive her to the killing fields), and bought a camera (for hero shots of her kills) you would be living in trailer down by the river.   :rolleye:

The Huntress' Sunday adventures.

We didn't see anything in the 1st hay field so we drove to the next one down the road. I jumped out & Diane drove to the other end. After I missed one & shot one we met up on top of the hill. Diane seen one down in the ravine too far away for her M2 so she had me setup on it. After a few minutes I decided to get a better vantage point.  But alas it never showed itself again. But as I'm setting there with the breeze blowing I looked 200yds down the hill & seen 2 more. I whistled to get the Huntress' attention & gave her some hand signals. She followed them well but couldn't get closer than 60yds. Undeterred she steadied on a round bale & let a 17gr'er fly from the little M2. I had a birdseye view from 200yds away thru my scope set on 9 & watched that groundhog just crumple!!

My view. The Huntress is next to the bales on the left side & the groundhog was out at the last big tree.
(http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee217/BrightwoodTurnings/hunting%20photos/IMG_20130630_093328_755_zps9fcb5c4f.jpg) (http://s228.photobucket.com/user/BrightwoodTurnings/media/hunting%20photos/IMG_20130630_093328_755_zps9fcb5c4f.jpg.html)

1 shot & dropped on the spot!!  :yoyo: :yoyo:
Shot of the day me thinks!!

Her last hog of the weekend was a little one by the hay bale that she shot the one off of earlier in this post. No more than 40yds with the M2 once again. Aint they just the cutest little things when they're sleeping!!   :laf: :laf:

July 4th.

I had Diane walk down to those bales in the above pic again knowing there were still 2 along those trees.  I went up the hill & had her hold back til I could see if anything was out yet. It was all clear so I waved her along. Halfway to her spot a small one ambled up outta the hole.  :doh2:  So I whistled & let her know what was up. She made it to the end of the bales before she could see the little bugger. It sat up & gave her time to get her chair & monopod ready. At which point she drilled it with the Mighty M2.  This one was at the nearest end of the trees. Mighta been 20yds.

Good shootin Ms. D!
Glen, you better hope she does not take a fancy to your .17 H2, otherwise you may lose another rifle? :holdon:

I picked off a young one out of HH1 yesterday. -No.6 for the year.  First one out of the Honey Holes?  My desk top computer crapped out on me, and this old lap top does not seem to want to work with Photobucket?  So I can't post any photos at this time.  Meantime, you two keep after them. :highclap:

Yeah she's a stone cold killer for sure!! I wish a coyote would come her way sometime!!  :eyebrow: :eyebrow:

:nofgr: She done got the FireBall Dave!! I guarantee you right here in writing she will have to pry that HMR from my cold dead hands to get!! Now that doesn';t mean I won't let her carry it from time to time tho. Besides,, she has her own HMR she never uses.

We're up to 10 each this year & we both have either a few missed shots or crawlers that got away.  As of now I hold the tiebreaker that she isn't aware of.  :innocentwhistle: :innocentwhistle:   Besides,, she's cheating me on the body count. It must be true the scorekeeper always wins.  :wo:

Glad to know the HH's are still producing. Albeit hit & miss they are still out there attracting potential vermin targets!!

Glen tell Mrs. "D" she should come on out here and help me with the ground squirrels and flying rats.  I'll even supply the ammo.
