I almost posted this under a "What is this?"

Heavy, short, wide, deep hull armor plated with a huge engine and a prop that rotates 360 degrees inside a steel cage directly under the operator.  These are for handling logs in the water:  moving, sorting and bunching big fir logs into rafts etc.

The one below is still in use.

Log raft being pulled by tug on Harrison Lake, pic taken three days ago in drizzle.

And I would have said a lawn roller that has gone out of business.

Pics of boom boats.  I knew a fellow who ran one at a huge log dump up in the middle of BC.  They move like a fat ballerina with the strength of a lineman.

Short video of a working boom boat on youtube

In the tug and raft pic in my earlier post, I think that the tug was going to take the logs down the outlet river which shows across the lake. It is a short five miles or so of easy downstream Harrison river to the huge Fraser River and then he can yow them to any mill between there and salt water, or even take them out to sea and to another mill somewhere else.

Can I talk :laf:

That is really cool. I wonder what it's like to drive that boat all day and then hop in your truck and drive home :eyebrownod:

Thats really cool, thanks for sharing. I always find these kind of things very interesting.

It is enjoyable to see things like this.  For some reason, it just doesn't happen on the Maumee river.
