Seems a little weird posting in the fishing forum, but I got a question about my canoe.

I bought this 3 years ago & never got it in the water. :doh2:
Well now that I'm working for myself I have some time (Coyote Kate tells me to take some time) for some R&R.
Anyhoo, it's a 14' aluminum & I'm wondering what should I do to clean it up? :wo:
My ideas are to take some Scotch Brite to it & then wax'er down w/ car wax.
I'm hoping maybe you guys know of a less labor intensive way. :whew:
:laf:
Any suggestions would be appreciated from this landlubber.
You can buy stuff to spray on that aluminum, and it'll make the bad boy look like it just came off the showroom floor.
It's some kind of acid, I cant recall the name of it, but they use it religiously on semi trailers and it's amazing how they clean up.
Prolly not much help with out the name but it's out there.
I think you should ship it to Montana. I will be happy to clean it up and test it for you. Or you might try a Scotch Brite pad on a palm sander.
The name of the spray on stuff that Jim is talking about is called ZEP
You can get it in a spray can or buy it by the gallon to mix it with water and scrub brush it on rinse it off and your done it will make it look white then take some stuff they call purple wipe that on wipe that off and the shine comes back
SShhhh, don't tell him that. He won't ship it to me. :alscalls: :alscalls: :alscalls:
Thanks guys .... I'm off to Advanced Auto Parts.
5-shots: why don't come here & we'll work on it together & then test 'er out. :eyebrow:
Got her clean as clean as she'll get.
I'm thinking I'll put car wax on it. Is that a good idea?
What did ya use to clean it with

That sounds almost as good, but it includes a lot of windshield time and I think I might be getting allergic. :innocentwhistle: :alscalls: :alscalls: :alscalls:

Could have boxed you up & sent ya next day air.
Well, Bill I got the ZEP, but we started off w/ The Works rust & calcium remover. She's as clean as a new penny!
I was going to wax it tonight, but that'll have to wait till morning now.
What we dont get no B4 and after pic??
You want a B4 wax after wash pix?
I can do that. ;yes;
I would have just used it like it was . The aluminum oxide coating would have just given you more traction in the water  for when ya got to set that hook. :alscalls: :alscalls:
I just now realized the funny in the title of this thread Vic. :doh2:

I'm not familiar w/ that boating term? Something to do w/ the anchor maybe?
I just realized! :holdon: I don't have an anchor. :shock2: Could I use one of my g'hog silhouette plates? They're pretty hefty.

Well, I still have to put the new registration stickers on. :doh2:
Always something. :sarcas3:
That turned out nice.
Now watch someone steal it when you and the miss'es walk up the bank to have a sandwich :doh2:
Just curious then; how much weight would it take to keep a dead body under water? :wo:
Depends on whether or not it's perforated. :laf:
Very likely! :laf:
Well then....if it's pretty well perforated, I'd say Slagmaker's 1/2 cup of black sand in a tubesock tide tightly around the ankle would keep er pretty close to the bottom. :laf:
Looks like you have your canoe cleaned up really good. Now you just have to get it in the water.
Jerry
That's the problem w/ boats. Ya gotta have water to enjoy 'em. :rolleye:
:laf: :laf:
Spring flooding will be here before you know it. :iroll:
