Any barrel makers??
never made any but drank a few. :yoyo:
Is that the ring they put the barrel over upside down to char the inside?
Very close, but not to char the inside of the barrel. This is a barrel cresset; scrap wood shavings are put in an iron basket called a "cresset", placed in the center of the barrel, and lit. The fire warms the wood allowing the fibers to relax so the cooper can gradually hammer progressively tighter metal hoops around the barrel until it forms the finished shape-a process called "trussing."
I knew it!! :readthis:
I was just getting ready to say that too. You took the words right outta me mouth

I thought you would have gotten that one. I didn't know it, but you are much wiser than I am.
I thought the ring was to help distribute the heat evenly around the inside of the barrel.
