Do you guys have one these? Or..how do you get your yaks to the water?
I might be pretty lucky since I have a pickup truck and I can back up to the water nearly anywhere I go. Plus it makes it easier to put the boat in at a regular boat launch, which we have tons of. But last weekend I found myself dragging the kayak down river to launch from the bank cause I knew I couldn't get where I wanted to go due to a beaver dam.
My kayak has a skeg wheel in the back which makes this a somewhat simple task providing the ground is smooth such as concrete ect LOL. Most of the reviews I read on the kayak before I bought it told me that the skeg wheel was was going to be junk. They were pretty much right. I only drug it maybe 100 feet and it already jammed up with rocks and bent it. I was able to take the wheel out at home that day and clean it all out and put it back in to get it working again. I think I'm going to build myself a small dolly type gig to set the back of the kayak on if I ever have to do that again. I don't think it would take much plus I can throw it on top of the back and bungee it down when I got onto the water. What do you guys use? Any suggestions?

This was a quick search one that showed up. I always thought of getting something like this (possibly better build) but haven't. I liked the idea of larger wheels to make it easy to move. Just something for you to consider.

I made a trolly for my canoe. The skeg wheel on my canoe didn't last a season before it was completly worn out.

Actually I carried it back to the truck when I was done that day because I seen that I had the skeg wheel all f@&%$# up. It only weighs like 60 pounds stripped down but it's cumbersome as hell being nearly 3 feet wide and 11 feet long. And not to sound like a Bernie supporter but my 50 year old back is junk already. Maybe from carrying all the real Bernie supporters for so long. lol
A lil trolly would be so much nicer.
Jerry I seen that one online too when I was sniffing around. I love it. A bit over kill for what I need, but a dang nice one. I may try to fabricate one if I cant find something a little more toned down.

I use one of these if I have a long way to go with my kayak. The straps that come with it don't work so good, but 2 of the 41" heavy duty rubber bungee straps work great on it.

Jim only has friends who will work for beer. The problem is that if he leaves the beer on the shore the friends will drink it and leave before he finishes fishing. Leaving Jim alone to load the kayak. And if he takes the beer with him in the kayak and leaves the rest of his friends on the shore there is no beer left to pay them when Jim (possibly) makes it back to shore. Here are a couple picks of the trolly I made for my canoe. Made it from a couple old bycicles and an old couch frame. The rails fit right in the channels that run the length of the canoe so I can put it anywhere along the length of the canoe depending on weight distribution then just strap it tight. It's a real back saver when I have to drag the canoe to the truck from the creek.
Nnice. So the next step is to put a trailer hitch on the boat? lol

Nah.. that canoe is like 80 pounds. Plenty easy to load in the back of the truck.
