We were up at 4AM and out to the woods sitting down before 5:30........... Called one very dry stand with no response.
We decided to make a drastic move very far away.......... as soon as we got there we heard one gobble far off....... I told Wayne...... " I know where he is going......"  :eyebrownod:

We set up and I would call softly as I could three yelps....... Yelp, yelp yelp........and the bird would gobble.....We would wait till he would gobble at least one more time or two before calling again....... Yelp, Yelp Yelp.......
After about 20 min. of the bird slowly coming a little closer......... I said Wayne...you call too.... You could tell he was nervous but he did a fine job and together we sounded like two hens feeding for about 1 min. and BOY did he like that......
till he hung up about 80-100 yds. out.

Wayne stopped calling and I tried to coax this bird but you could tell he was very Cautious........
So I said........ " PSSSSSSST"  I could tell Wayne thought I was nuts for wanting to talk right then and he ignored me......
So being the nice fella that I am....  I said "PSSSSSSSSST !!"  Wayne gave me a look that was   :argh:   :laf: :laf:

I said "I am gonna move"......   He said DONT #$%#@^&*^%@#........ and I got up.....
I moved about 50 yds. farther back slowly........ each time I got behind a tree....I would dig in the leaves with my feet....
All of a sudden that bird triple gobbled!!!......I knew we had him if Wayne could stop shaking...... :laf: :laf:  HELL I was shaking for him...... :laf: :laf:
I had worked this bird for an hour and a half and Ol Wayne was doing good to just hold the gun longer......... I did three soft yelps and I seen wayne turn to his right a bit and I made a loud yelp or two then a cackle...... BANG!!!!!
Waynes first gobbler!!!!!!!!!  EVER!     :yoyo: :yoyo: :yoyo:  Proud of ya man!!!!! No dont cuss the caller for leaving ya no more....... :laf: :laf:

9 1/2" beard     7/8" spurrs   18lb.

[L] the cabin has been waiting for years and can wait a bit more.   Real cool story that I was with for every second of the hunt.  Appreciated it Al and I'm guessing here but I think Wayne is too.  Good job buddy.
I say what I think not think what I say.

That is one advantage of having two people on stand. Good job on the calling AND the shooting. Congratulations Wayne on the 1st of what will be many fine gobblers.  :yoyo: :yoyo:

He got to see it strut and drum..and gobble... :eyebrownod:  For such a looooooooong time I was worried he would loose it.... :laf:

I have been working with him for a couple of years now and I think he knows enough now to try it on his own.
Shoot I remember back when I started.......I would call real good till the bird got in front of me then my calling sounded more like someone stepped on a goose..... :alscalls: :alscalls:

He done real good holding back the excitement till the bird was his....... :yoyo: :yoyo:

TOLD YA HE WAS READY!!!!!!!!!!!

Ol Wayne called this one in for his wife and she shot it at 30yds. with a 22-250!
He worked in three birds and this one gave the best shot.

WAY TO GO BUDDY!!!!!!!   :congrats: :congrats: :congrats: :congrats:

The most important thing he learned.......... ( he still can kill one more bird for himself )  But he chose to call one in for a new hunter and get them excited about hunting!   :yoyo: :yoyo: :yoyo:
