The last couple nights the coon have played havac on the hen house we are down close to 30 hens   I can't set any traps cause the damn cats we have would be into them,can't poison them for the same reason.The law says I can't shoot them cause they aren't in seson   What the hell is a feller suppose to do.I get laughed at when I say the State of Ohio can pay me for my loss.

If I was younger I would do like I used to and that is go hand to paw and mouth combat with these thieves,but for me to RUN and corner one of these fellers and kill it without a weapon Is out of the question any more   any suggestions on how to take care of this problem

You can contact the DNR.  The hunting rules apply when you are "hunting" but different rules come into play when you are having damage done by the animals.  For example, high power (not shotguns) can be used to take deer at the county airport due to the fact that they can cause crashes.  I have some coon cuffs that I have used for trapping that work very well and don't kill the coon - just keeps its paw trapped in the pipe.  I have never caught a cat in one, but I was using marshmallows for bait and maybe the cats didn't like them.

The cuffs are a good Idea and I have seen them before.I am hoping for some rain this afternoon and tonight so I can find the den then I will attack them on their turf

I was going to suggest coon cuffs.......

Another old famous one is to......Drill a hole in a tree big enough and deep enough so the coon can reach its hand in to get bait...
I do not remember exactly but I think we used a 3/4" bit.
Then you toenail 4 nails around the edge of the hole in such a way the coon can reach between the nails with an open hand but when he grabs the bait.......(tinfoil and jelly works great) he makes a fist and can not get out and does not want to let go of the bait....I would then use my catch pole to dispatch the animal. (Carefull!!! sometimes they let go.... )

When I lived in Ohio Bill, I believe it was legal to remove nuisance animals from your own property.......Call and explain and see what they say......me...I would just shoot them.

I have contacted DNR and waitng for them to get back in touch with me I don't want to loose my hunting rights over a few coon and I know I live far enough back in the woods that
it shouldn't matter and word shouldn't get out,but word always gets spread around one way or another

You can trap and destroy nuisance raccoons on your own property.  You
must destroy them, they cannot be relocated.  Thanks,

I thought it was still that way in Ohio......
Stick to the rules on the NO relocating as it really can start some awful disease spread among the wildlife....I have seen it and the death toll aint worth the risk.
I know a lot of folks disagree....They would not feel that way if they seen what I have.

Well I won't be trapping but I think I have the destroying part down
#4 2 3/4 mag in the 12 gauge will work
I have enough light from the security light to see them theifs come in and will blast them suckers right back into the trees

So all I can say now is COME AND GET IT

This isnt even nice when ya think about it, because Bill cant defend himself.
He's in bed by now and Chris moves the wheelchair away from the bed at night so he dont roll out of bed and hurt himself.

So he can't come fight back.

No Jim it is me here now she is in bed cause she is the one that has to work in the morning
Me I am off the rest of the week .I have a flat tire on the wheel chair right now so I have to walk and it takes some time for me to do that

Chris had the flash light and I had the 12 gauge do you folks know what #4 shot 2 3/4 mag will do to a coon at 10 yards and right between the eyes  it is not pretty I will not post any pics of that one due to the graphic nature of it

Ye need good dogs Bill. I can destroy them if nescescary here and not worry about what the state says. My pups do not bark on track and I can't help what they do to to some poor critter that walks up in th yard or garden at night.

And if one attacks me I'll whomp it with my cane  Jimmie
