What is your favorite powders For small caliber rifle ?

What is your favorite pistol powders ?

I always end up with pretty good loads in the varget,BL-C (2) and H322  for my 22 center-fires. Varget being my favorite in the .223 and 22-250. The BL-C (2) runs second and H322 3rd

My hunting pistols usually run Win 296 or H110

My plinking loads for pistol 38,9mm,40 ETC. run titegroup it is a very consistent powder "burns clean" and doesn't take much.

My 300 whisper burns the WW 296

My 7.62x39 burns AA1680 very well

the old Nagant 7.62x54r burns Varget for lite loads 125g and IMR 4350 for heavy loads 180g

"What is your favorite powders For small caliber rifle ?"

Good stuff that Varget, shoots great and is a clean burning powder too. Currently, I use it in my 22-250.
IMR 4198 shoots well in my XP-100 221FB, 222 and 223 rifles as does  IMR 3031 in my 243’s.  As I deplete my powder inventory I may try Varget in these also.
Win. 296 in the 22 Hornet.

H-110, Unique and 2400 in the 38, 357, 45 Colt and 44 mag handguns.

I use Varget exclusevily in all my rifle shells. I really can't complain about it.

ROOSTER

I use Varget in all of my rifles also. 223 up to 308. They all shoot good groups with it. Plus the temperature variable is one l thing I don't have to worry about as much.

TA17rem

My favorite powders.. N-140, N-540. AA-2230 H-335, H-380

Hawks Feather

RL-7 has worked best in my hornets and .221 Fireballs.

H335 in all but one .222s.
748 in one .222.

H335 in the .222 mag.

H335 in all but one .223s.
748 in one .223.

IMR4320 in my .243.

H322 in my 6BR

4350 in my .270

I really wish that there was one powder that all the guns like, but I haven't found it yet.  I have found some that work pretty good as long as you are just shooting groundhog heads, but I  try to find the best load at the bench and there the differences start showing up.  On load testing days I usually spend most of the day at the range.  I take the Wilson dies, Sinclair press, powder measures, different powders, different bullet weights, etc. and just have lots of fun.

Looks like i am going to have to try Varget.I have never used it.Right now i am useing H380 in my 243 and 22-250.

I too use a lot of Varget. The only powder I ever bought in a keg. However I have a new love for the 222 ... 10X. :highclap:
I haven't settled on a powder for my 45s. (45ACP & 45LC)

I am currently using IMR 4831 to load my 25-06, with 110 grain Nosler Accu-Bond, I could not find any loading data on the Nosler 110 grain bullet so I called Nosler and they told me to use same loads as 115 grain, I loaded with 54 grains of the IMR 4831 and the Gun shoots good but I think I may be a little bit high on the load also the IMR powder seems to leave more residue in the barrel, harder to clean than other powders I use. Anyone out there have a 25-06? What Powder and what loads have you found to work best in your Rifle? Carolina Coyote

cb223

I use Varget in my .243, H-380 in my 22-250, and H-4895 in my .204 . I stick mainly with those powders for the bullets I use.

ohiobob

I use Varget for My 223,,22-250 and 30-06,,I use to use IMR 4895 in my 22-250 but got a HELL of a deal on a 1 Lb can from the Local Gunshop up the road,,so I bought the Varget in ALL 3 guns and never looked back,,matter of fact when I went to the gunshop I bought a LB of IMR 4895 when the owner made me the great deal,,well I am on my
3rd Can of Varget and I STILL have the 1 Lb Can of IMR 4895,,so instead of just letting the 4895 sit there I am going to load 250 FMJ I have had laying around for about 10 years,,in 223 to "RUN" through my AR-15

My Pistols I use H110 in 44 Mag for Hunting or for the house,,I also use a Shotgun Powder in anywhere between
4 and 7 Grains to Shoot Lead Bullets for Practice,,I also Use the Shotgun Powder for CHEAP Practice loads in
my 40 S&W,,BUT I have Factory Winchester Black Talons in my XD-40 to keep beside the Bed,,I would NEVER use anything BUT Factory Ammo for a Protection/House  Round  :nofgr: But I just got a FREE Lb  and I think I am going to load some .40 Cal Loads with a FMJ Bullet,,anyone have a good 40 S&W Load using Winchester 231 ???
I went to using the Shotgun Powders for Practice Loads about 12 Years ago and that makes for some VERY CHEAP loads to Practice Fast Fire and 3 shot strings,,at 4 Grns a Round you can have some good ole fun,,Plus I have the Kids and Wife shoot those a lot,,I also have a LB can of I think "Clays" to use in a Pistol Round ,,I loaded up about 50 Years ago and never used it again,,I will have to try that again,,I need to find some VERY CHEAP FMJ Bullets for my Pistols
in 38/357 and 40 Cal,,,anyone know anything about those "Ranier" Bullets ??? I THINK that is the right name ???

IMR 4064 in 25/06 and .243 w/ 75 VMax...never found anything would touch it...

AA#7 in 9mm and 38 super

AA2230 in .223

IMR 4350 and 4895 for most other rifle applications......270, 30\06 size cases

HP 38 or WW231 for lower/medium velocity handguns...actually same powder....WW gets it from Hodgdon and adds graphite.

WW 296 or H110 for higher velocity handguns.....

Large handgun cases w/ heavy bullets....Blue Dot....don't laugh till ya try it!!

452 AA used to be an awesome handgun powder as well.....drove 250 gr LSWC at 1100 fps from a 5 inch 1911....those were my bowling pin loads when I used to do that.....pretty good attention getter.

I've never reloaded before and am going to start. I've saved my brass from my .243 and have decided on which bullet I want, the 75 gr VMax. Was wondering which powder to buy for 1st run? I want something that works OK year round and is commonly available.

Arkyyoter

IMR 4064 is AWESOME with a 75 VMax in .243......I shoot 39.5 grains w/ OAL @ 2.696, WWLR primer.....shoots like a house on fire in all my 243s.....to start with, start out about 36 grains, and work up for safety, but 39.5 is not a max load....yields about 3200-3350 fps in all our 243s and shoots VERY well...

Thanks for the info Joe. I'm still looking into getting my supplies ready to start. A freind of mine loads and is going to help me out. I'm not looking for 1 hole groups, just hunting.

Litigation is my only reason for shooting factory loads for self defense...if you were forced to use a weapon in self defense, and were shooting handloads...they would make you out to be a blood thirsty, maniacal killer for using them. The civl litigation would be difficult.....
