Hi Guys,

New to the forum here and wanted to get some help/opinion on how to hang a deer hide. Just got my first hide back from the taxidermist and want to hang it in my fireplace room but not sure how to do it properly. Saw some stuff online about backing it with plywood, felt, and some that say no backing at all.

Anyone have experience with this type of project? Pics, tips, tricks, instructions?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Tom

Welcome to the forum.
My personal opinion would be to hang it as it is without any plywood or backing. I always did it by placing thumbtacks or push pins about a foot apart all the way around the hide as I hung it, to keep it in its shape on the wall.
Plywood behind it, for some reason to me anyway, just doesnt seem feasible, and would be very cumbersome and heavy on the wall.
A felt back is typically used for rugs. It provides a different color border to accent or "set off" the appearance of the hide itself. Some folks do put a felt boarder on deer hides and hang them on the wall too.
It's all personal preference and there's no real right or wrong.

Welcome to the site !!

I agree with FinsnFur, that's how I did mine, except I used very small nails.
