Title: FIRE!!
Post by: remrogers on September 10, 2020, 09:34:49 AM
Last night there were 38 active wildfires in Oregon. Sky is heavy with smoke and it has a yellow tinge to it. Air quality is the same as the inside of a chimney. My favorite river, the North Santiam, has a forty mile long fire on the lower end. Towns of Detroit, Gates, Mill City and Lyons have heavy damage. Videos, of Detroit, look like 80 to 90% of the town is gone. There were a lot of homes in the area and vacation cabins. Don't believe many are still standing.

Western half of the country seems to be on fire.

Apparently not. Some causes are undetermined and some started when high winds dropped power lines. Very good possibility some were sparked by dry lightning  storms. Have not heard on most of the fires. Officials are too busy trying to get them under control and evacuate people. So far, 500,00 have evacuated and they have already caught some looters. Those looters are the lowest of the low. Have my own opinion what they should do with them. Air quality here is now the worst in the world.Have a quarter mile visibility and the sun isn't visible through the smoke. Supposed to have some rain showers starting Monday afternoon and into Wednesday and maybe Thursday. Sure hope the forecast is correct.
Have had about 3/4" of rain since mid June.

Last Monday the wind started blowing smoke into NW Oregon and fanned the flames of the wildfires. Since Wednesday morning, the best visibility has been about half a mile. Don't know what changed over night, but now you can just see some trees at two hundred yards. The air doesn't smell of smoke, it just stinks. Supposed to start clearing out sometime Monday with the chance of rain showers the rest of next week. Air quality is off the charts and no one knows how bad the air really is. People will be dying from this stuff if it doesn't clear soon. Still have fires going and I feel for those trying to get them put out.
