We should back it up to the second weekend for next year, February 8,9, and 10. That way all of us guys that come in early won't have to shoot rimfires and birdshot. There were several wounded coyotes that were never found this year, I hate to see that happen.

Of course we would have to question anyone that calls sloppy joes BBQ. Mebbe we can get lucky and talk my dad into burning a shoulder or two.

AWH, alll you have to do is find I24 on a road map. You can get off of it at Cadiz or Grand Rivers exits to enter the LBL.Jimmie

Note to self.  That was not nice.  Never spit in the wind, argue with the owner of a newspaper who buys ink in 55 gallon drums, or make fun of the person that can get you banned from a website.

Jim's recipe for BBQ, ground meat ( enough to fill pot) chopped onions and bell peppers ( about a cup of each) 1 can of tomatoe something or other for flavor and a touch or two of red and black pepper to give it a bit of a kick. Pretty good eatin' really for all the agravation we give him over it :eyebrownod:

Dad's recipe for BBQ sauce, 1 gallon of tomatoe paste, 2 cups of sorghum or 1 pound of brown sugar ( depending on if he has sorghum at the time) Black pepper,  white pepper, garlic powder and onion powder, salt to taste. You can add cayanne to the mix , or throw in habanero peppers, for heat depending on how much you can stand. Bring all this to a boil and then cool slowly.

I sometimes use honey in place of the sorghum and have a tendancy to throw in a touch of mustard for mine.

BBQ Meat, anything already dead with the hide or feathers pulled off, slow cooked over white oak and hickory coals until you can jerk the bones free with a flick of the wrist. Baste on a fairly regualr basis with the above BBQ sauce until done.

Yah'll hongry yet  :sneer: Jimmie

ketchup
whorchester sauce
liquid smoke
grape jelly
horse radish sauce
garlic powder or fresh cloves
sweet onions chopped fine
a little pepper
and maybe a smack or so of jack.

that all goes into a crock pot with a hunk of meat preferably deer.  slow cook for 12 hrs

Heck ya. I'll bring the Hall family pulled pork BBQ beer cooler. And a plate. :roflmao:

What kind we talking about Ben? pork, deer, beef, turkey, all the above....I do enjoy a good cook off. I'll even make a batch of the smack ya momma in the mouth sauce. Just dont say smack ya momma in the mouth around Cam....He's young and takes everything serious

I'll get Lil-man to make a call for 1st place.  It will have a nice ketchup/BBQ hand rubbed finish, for the occasion...and Bill of course.

heck don't matter to me what kind a meat it is.  I have a 300 lb hog in the frezzer so that is what I will probably use.  that is if this goes through.(don't want to butt in here being a first timer and making up contests and such)  and even if we do not make it as a contest still gonna make it.

If your brining pork, I'll bring some deer and Squirrel. ( BBQ Squrriel is Lil-mans fav) And like ya said, if they don't want to have a contest, Well still have plenty of BBQ.
I figure if we feed them well, they will have some pitty and show us to some good hunting spots seeing to how they've hunted there before

Speaking of the white lightening, I got a buddy here that makes some mighty smooth peach stuff.......occasionally I will use it for medicinal purposes.........

True. So true. Last trip we took to your wonderful state Bop, my cuz was sweeting bullets cause our Tenn. friend had placed several quarts in the back of cuz's truck so we could give it to the other friends of theirs up here. I could yell cop and cuz would get the shakes pretty bad.....LOL. I love picking on the boy. I guess I'll leave what I got at home at home. And stop by the friends on the way back home. He makes some called apple pie that is so so good....and the lemon honey is good. And the cherry, peach and plain clear is good....I might have to call him tonight now that I got a hankering for a taste.

One of the major reasons the LBL was created was to get rid of the concentration of moonshiners there. And since one of th former landowners had established a game park there, it gave the government ideas. The remnants of the herd of fallow deer are still there on the original preserve which is the environmental education center now. Moonshining is a big part of the stories that come from there when you talk to some of the descendants.

A son of the former park keeper told me about the feds dumping out the mash from a still in what is now Honker bay. It was the first time he had seen drunk Canada Geese. Unlike airline pilots, drunk geese can't fly  :laf: Jimmie

During th month of february any legal caliber hunting weapon is legal for coyote in th LBL. So your muzzleloader is OK Blackfish.

All reservations to stay at Wranglers campground must now be handled through ReserveUSA website. Yah'll just remember that cabins A1 and A2 are already spoken for that weekend. Two days for the Large cabins will be around $112 give or take a few if they decide to increase the rates a bit again this year.

We did have an increase on out of state Ky licsenses this year so that will be diferent this time. How much yet I am not sure. LBL hunting permit has remained the same. Jimmie

Thanks for the reply Jimmie,I 'll go on your states DNR web page and check out  lic.  prices and laws. I had seen  the LbL hunting article  in the Varmint Hunter Mag and thought it would make a good road trip ! As long as things go well this year, sounds  like tits to me!  Might even bring another "Old Retired  Man "with me to share the tripp $ and drive!  I'll check  out Wranglers site too ! Thanks fer the infro!

How many to a Large cabin ? if a large cabin is $66 a day how much for a small cabin and how many does a small cabin sleep ? and most people just go down on Saturday & Sunday ?
I agree with ya Blackfish about the cost of gas, It MIGHT be around $4.50 by the time the LBL rolls around  :doh2:  :sad2:   :mad2:  :mad3:

The large cabins have 6 twin sized beds (bunk beds) and a full sized bed. Can't really say how big the small cabins are, never been in one of those.

There are some people that come down for just the Saturday and Sunday but not many. Most people come in early in the week and stay till Sunday. At least that is what I try to do.

The small cabin has two bunk beds and a full size bed.  It costs about $35 per night.  Without heat.     So ya need to bring an electric heater of some sort with ya.  Wrangler's has portable heaters for use but sometimes they don't work real well.

This fat boy doesn't rough it quite like the rest. At the south gate of the LBL is a place called the Dover Inn. Yeah BABY!!!
It's not fancy, but if you rent a cabin there you have a kitchen (YUMMY), a heated room, comfortable beds, warm water, and showers. If you just rent a room the only difference is the kitchen ain't there.

I'll visit with you boys at night, but when fat boy becomes sleepy boy.........Dover Inn bound.

Sounds like there could be enough fellers in camp to put on a drive. :yoyo: I'm Serrious! There are locals here that drive coyote. Sometimes they actually do some shooting too. Too labor intensive for a graying, overweight, middleaged ridgerunner from PA though. I'm not saying I am one  just that it is.....well, you know.  :innocentwhistle:

I know that I am deffinately coming down but I called a buddy of mine and he said that he might come down along with me.  I was wondering to you guys normally pair up with others in the cabins.  it would be stupid financially speaking to rent a cabin for only 2 people when it can fit 7.  just wondering since this will be my first time hunting out of state.

Me and Cam are planning on being there. (If his mom lets him skip school for a few day's...if not, just me I guess) We'll split a cabin w/ ya if you want too. May bring one of the cousins as well. Won't know if he can go till closer to the hunt.

Yotehunter74, and Bigben, You can go to LBL.org and download one of the road and zone maps of the LBL. Get yourselves familiar with those. I will post closed roads or bad roads when we get closer to the hunt. These are also what I mark for newbies to the area when they get there. I try to have a number of areas scouted out with easy access for those who need it as well.

You can also go to any one of the map sites and look at arial photos and topo maps of the LBL. Type Land Between the Lakes in the search.

Anyone want to carpool from NC? I'm in Concord and only have my mazda runnin right now.  My truck is in pieces as it is being rebuilt.

Also, is anyone up for pulling off a week at LBL?  I get 2 weeks off work per year and don't have anthing better to blow one on.

Has the attendance sheet been started?  If so, I would recommend an estimated stay duration for each guy, so everone can plan on how long they may want to keep the party rockin.  MAN I'M STOKED!!!

I reeeaallly want to make it down there in '08, but it is going to depend on where I am working. I am in the job search process right now trying to start a new career. If I am still employed at the same place you can bet I will be there. If I am working somewhere else, it will depend on my schedule.

Ya know that's beaver trapping season up here...who knows what you might find getting cooked up on the grill :eyebrow:

BigBen, Yotehunter and all of you other PA / OH area guys, I might be able to drag somebody along with me when I head south from Northwestern PA. Should I bring the wifes mini-van  It gets better gas milegae than my truck and she really likes the smell of a dead coyote :puke: :puke:

Hey guys! I'm new to this site but I live next door to the LBL and hunt it an awful lot.  I really want to get involved with the annual hunt this year and meet some new friends.  I pretty much hunt alone mainly because I don't have anybody to hunt with.  I moved here from Oregon last fall.  Is there any way I can get paired up with someone to hunt with?  Let me know what the dates are and how the thing goes.  I have located a bunch of coyotes again this year while hunting deer all season.  Next cold snap and I'll start calling varmits daily.  That's a great place to do it.  Look forward to seeing you all this Feb!!

Welcome to FnF, hammeryotes!

You won't have any problem finding someone to hunt with.  Some guys like to hunt alone and some don't mind taking one or two along.   Be sure to bring some hip waders for the evening sessions around the campfire.  The BS gets pretty deep.   :roflmao:

Hey Hammeryotes.....your not crazy....you need to have 25 posts in order to send PM's. Keep in mind that there are rules about posting to increase your post count. Something about castration.  Just kidding.
