Here is how we do it for fun at home.......

500 yd egg shoot........  you miss your out...... you hit the egg ...... you advance...... till the last man cracking the egg..=FUN !

Cracker shoot
Five saltine crackers standing at 100 yds.  everyone shooting a smoke pole with open sights lines up at once....... first one to break all 5 crackers wins.......    :laf: :laf: :laf:   Funny to watch everyone forget things like  powder...... then patch & ball  not ball first...........   :alscalls: :alscalls: :alscalls: :alscalls:    Very fun...... I have won a few of these and lost many more.....  :laf:

200 yd match shoot......
Shoot the head off a wooden match....... longest hit match wins....... a tie goes again ........  = FUN

That's why I'm not interested in a "contest".  The group I would shoot offhand at 200 yrds would look like Bop's shotgun pattern!

Al... I would be lucky to hit the hen house at 500 yards let alone an egg.  :laf: :innocentwhistle:

Anybody know how long the range is @ LBL?

Born and raised in the southern highlands of Appalachia, I'm just an ol' country boy who enjoys calling coyotes... nothing more, nothing less.

The range at Golden Pond has just reopened.  They completely reworked it while they were building the new 68/80 hwy.  It has been extended to 175 yrds (from 100).

To quote Mr. Rich Cronk: “If you call the coyotes in close, you won't NEED a high dollar range finder”.

I think a shooting match could be interesting...

Sorry, Mr. HaMeR, Sir... I can't be giving away one of Bop's secret "cracker come here" sounds. :nofgr: :nono:

Article on LBL shooting range. I thought the NPHA would have had more to do with it.   :alscalls: :alscalls:

For what it's worth, here is the story they gave me back when they shut the old range down.  First of all the old range was only 100 yrds and didn't really have a backstop that had been built.  It was just one of the hills there at lbl and was across a ditch from where the "end" of the 100 yrd range was.  It was plenty high enough to keep from being dangerous, but the other three sides were completely open.  It was also not turned directly away from the hwy. There had never been any improvements since they built the road in there and declared it a shooting range except for the benches and an aluminum carport type canopy that had been set up at some point.  While they were building the new 4 lane hwy, they wanted to take advantage of the equipment on site as well as the available dirt that was being cut out of the hill for the hwy.  So, they relocated the archery range, turned the rifle range so your shooting directly away from the hwy, extended it, added the pistol range to one side, and put a berm around the whole shebang.  I have not shot there since it reopened, but I stopped by after the dirt work had been done.  Looks like it should serve the purpose pretty well.  It's free so it's not to bad a deal.  I think I would like to see them reinstate the reservation/2 hour block thing.  Would hate to drive an hour and sit for 2 waiting for a spot to open up.  Or, there be somebody there shooting eggs with match sticks making ya feel bad about the way you shooting!  :nono:

I know with the reservation system the locals kept it tied up. And now with it having easier and better access they will likely keep it tied up by the time we get up there. So it would be a good idea to check in on it if we decide to have a shoot off.

Never heard of cracker shoot for smoke poles. But have seen ramrod shoots and match shoots. They started at 40 yards and single miss elimination.  Ramrods (dowels) were marked in one inch incriments for accuracy and judging. Nock off one inch at a time.  Saw a cherry half stock pennsylvania at one fo those shoots that would make any gun nut drool. This same bunch of guys also have 22lr silhuoette shoots for ha ha's. Range is 250 yrds. And NO , I don't bother to try and shoot with them. Jimmie
