This is the third day of singing and drumming and today the event moved into the park behind our house.  I took the first pic an hour or so ago when I started smoking some pork chunks on our deck.  By now the crowd is three times as big and has two big circles of dancers.

The gal in yellow left of center below seems to be special some way, maybe she is a bride, don't know.  It is ALL women.  I'd love to stroll over and find out what's up but...

There is an open space for dancing in the middle of the women and those around it clap and sing while a few go into the center to dance.  A woman will go into the center to dance and others join her and usually the dance and singing reaches some kind of peak fairly soon, and then everybody stops for a minute or less and then another woman starts it again.  Kids running around.  Everybody is having a  good time.

The park pretty much filled up and they piled some long tables with food. I'da kinda liked to sample the flavors. My neighbor came over to my deck to sample some smoked pork and get a better view of the park.  While we stood on my deck beside my high tech digital primitive meat smoker, he wondered aloud whether it would be OK for the two of us white guys to wander through the park and try to find out what was happening.  I reminded him that it was ONLY WOMEN in the park and that it might not be a good idea for two white MEN to stroll through.

Side note on the smoked pork:  whole pork shoulder, boned out, cut into long chunks similar to boneless ribs, with silver skin etc. removed.  Primo.

Sorry Oke but it made me think of this.

I was sitting at a long stop light yesterday, thinking about what I would do to keep busy for the rest of the week, minding my own business and patiently waiting for the light to turn green, even though there was no on-coming traffic.

An old Nissan full of bearded, young, loud Muslims, shouting Anti-American slogans, with a half-burned American Flag duct-taped on the trunk of their car, and a "Remember 9-11" slogan spray painted on the side, stopped next to me.

Suddenly they yelled, "Allah Akbar! Praise Allah! Death to America" and took off before the light changed.

Out of nowhere an 18-wheeler truck came speeding through the intersection and ran directly over their car, crushing it completely and killing everyone in it.

For several minutes I sat in my car thinking to myself," Man, that could have been me!"
So today, bright and early, I went out and got a job as a truck driver!
I say what I think not think what I say.

pitw, you baaad!

While we are on tangents:  An ironic bit of graffiti in this area said, "Send the Paki's back to India."

And on tactics, I took the pics from way back inside my house, not when standing out on the deck nor over a window sill.

I went riding one day several years ago and had some engine trouble. Broke down and had to wait for my cousin to come trailer me up. While waiting I was sitting in the shade and noticed that a family in the houses behind me was having some kind of celebration. Not sure what they were celebrating but two of the young gentlemen came up and in broken English asked if everything was ok. I said yep just waiting on a ride and they proceeded to ask me questions about my bike. while talking to them one of them motioned to a young feller in the crowd and he came running up with a cold beer for me. I had a hard time getting through there accents but it was interesting and they tried very hard for me to understand them. I don't know what country they were from and I have no idea the name of the beer other than it was COLD and tasted pretty good. The music they were playing was American and something else that was in the language they were speaking. The two young men finally went back to the shindig and my cousin showed up with the trailer. Don't know what country they were from but they looked like they knew how to have a good time
