It's a deer antler. I'm pretty sure it'll hold up just as good if not better then the worn out wood one I've used for 20 years with no finish left on it.

While I don't own any, I have handled several knives that have handles made from bear jaws.  They hold really well and you can get a bite on the grip.

With the slight curve to the handle I would think it would have great blade control. The texture should make keeping the grip easy.
