Better pics than I take with the good camera :doh2:. You got a few chargers there eh.
chargers?
The second and third pics I took tonight on the way back from my bi-weekly, four road trip of taking the girls back to their Mom's.
I seen that thing off the horizon and it seriously looked like a section of the earth had just exploded. It was so bright it was like an atom bomb, mainly because I had just drove out from under a slow moving front. But it was cool. :eyebrownod:
wind chargers.
Pretty cool pics
The sun looks huge in that one.... :eyebrownod: :yoyo: :yoyo:

STAY AWAY FROM THE LIGHT JIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:laf: :laf: Cool pics. :yoyo:
The first and last picture sure are soothing to look at.
We was suppose to get whacked with big storms tonight. But I wasnt going to let it hinder my date with my fishing rod :eyebrow:
The storm never came, but boy was mother nature busy!
These first two were taken from the exact same spot within 20 minutes of each other.
And this was was actually before those, I took this from the road thinking I wasnt going to find an opening in the trees before it disappeared.
MANnnnnnnnnn that is some sweet stuff :yoyo:
Now those are some pretty sunsets, good job Jimbo!!
Ma can do things with her paint brush people can only dream about eh. Good job Jim. :yoyo:

I bagged these two beauts from the front yard tonight.
I had to set my beer and pizza down to get the job done, but someone had to do it.
Same spot, bout 20 minutes apart. Man I jis looove it  :yoyo:
I wish I could have pulled it off without the dang wires in there, but. :iroll:

Tried catching a fish tonight after work since it was so nice outside. The water is cooling wayyyyyy down and I got skunked, but I did bring these home
These sunsets are like crack....I can't STOP. :doh2:
Jim I have the same addiction. Just ask my family about one of our trips to Yellowstone NP. Back then I only had 35mm and not a digital camera so I don't have any of those pics to share.
I do have two from WI taken by my in laws in Pearson and along a creek while calling coyotes.
I have never heard it so quiet in the woods as that day on the creek. No sound at all.
Nice stuff yotefever :yoyo:
Pearson uh? Our families probably know each other up there. I've got two daughters living with their mother and going to school, 15 minutes from Pearson.
Neat PowerShots!
Jerry
Wow that last one is almost on fire :bowingsmilie:.
Yep those are some sweet sunsets. I need to get out my 1400 and post up something. Good job Jim :congrats:
That last batch was actually a sun rise, just several minutes apart as it all came together.
Looked out the back window as I stood in front of the cupboard waiting for the toaster to give me my English muffin back.
Seen that beaut coming to life and I dashed for the door. I was running around climbing on top air conditioners and cars behind the house in my Bermudas and slippers trying to get those pics without all the trees and garages.............or the neighbors seeing me :innocentwhistle:

Here is two of my favorites from my Alaska trip
Those R cool Semp :eyebrownod: It's pretty wild how all these colors can be coughed up.
saw this the other day while sitting in a blind
Not a sunset but perty just the same.
Thats the stuff Slag...thats the stuff :eyebrownod:
Danged if that hill aint on fire slag!! :yoyo: :yoyo: Way cool pics!!
Yeah it was a beautifull sun rise. I should have turned the flash off cause you cant see all the colors.
But the old saying red sky in the morning was dead on. Had a heck of a storm move in that evening.
This isn't a sunset, but my dad took this not too long after a tornado had taken their house. He was standing in the backyard wondering what to do next when he saw this. He has it hanging in his living room. He calls it, "The Promise" photo. Means a lot to the whole family.
THAT is crazy eeerie :sad3:

Wow, Pat, that Bonita Springs pic sure looks good to me right now. I trudged around in snow over the weekend and slept in a sleeping bag in temps around 0 F, looking for a four point or better mule deer, the only thing legal in this late season. No luck. Now back home near the coast, it is pouring a cold cold rain. Unless I head to the dry side of the mountains I won't see the sun for a long time!
Last week we had rain for days after a few days of snow here at home. The rain was so cold it would not melt the snow. After three days of constant rain we still had big patches of snow on the lawn plus the piles from shoveling.
Here's an early summer sunset looking southeast at Mt. Baker with the last rays of the setting sun still lighting the top of the mountain.
That is a cool picture ^^^^!! :yoyo: :yoyo:

Thank you! Yep on the tree. I tried it with and without flash and with and without the tree, all within a minute or two. The light was so low and my hands tremble from thyroid stuff, so that the no flash pics turned out blurry. Needed a tripod tor the length of exposure.
Really red sunset tonight and the photo is as taken, no touch ups. Jim, bring your camera out here.

And just for the record, Yes, those pictures would be a lot prettier with a new camera, but since I am an avid cell phone camera enthusiast, I doubt I will change. :nono:
You got Nikon enthusiasts. You have Ford lovers. You have Ruger lovers, etc.
I like camera phones. They are handy, readily available, never forget them and the quality of the picture is not what I want. I want it to remind me of the memory. Ever hear an old song and remember something in particular because of it? Or how about you see an old vehicle that reminds you of one a buddy had or maybe you drove....(L), every once in awhile maybe see one that reminds you of one grandpa had when you were little.
Pictures do that for me. I don't need them to be super vivid. I am not a professional photographer, so I won't go hungry if my pictures look like crap. I want the memory to come back. The feel, the smell, the taste, my state of mind, my age, what my kids were doing right then....all of it.
I want to step back in time and relive that moment for just a minute or two. Now that's what I'm talking about. :eyebrownod:
Here's a few from Namibia.
Three and half months and 250Savage and I will be Africa bound!
I've tentatively gotten my feet wet with the new line of EVIL camera's....

Hows the pics I cant really tell on my fuzzy monitor. They were both taken with my phone and the second was a slight zoomed in.
The first one is crystal clear and really tells a story.
The second one is kind of fuzzed up, cheap looking, and has half the contrast.
Cool, no more zooms for the Iphone scenic shots. :alscalls:
Wow, they both look great to me. What I really like about the 2nd one is that the color fills about 80% of the pic. Maybe that effect could be done by editing the 1st pic, though.

Here's one from last week. Sunset while fishing for salmon with Chinook, sockeye and lots of pinks in the Fraser river at the same time. There's a pink salmon on the stern of the kayak.
And one off of our deck a few evenings ago. Wish the moon had been closer to Mt. Baker at sunset.
Oh yeahhh :congrats: Thats beautiful
I'm jealous Okanagan, that's AWESOME!!! Very Nice. :highclap: :yoyo:
Thanks, Bopeye! We get to live in spectacular country, but the best anywhere is enjoying it with kids and family, like you are doing.
Here's one I just got, taken by my 14 year old grandson of his 12 year old brother fishing for pink salmon at sunset a few days ago. The 14 year old saved and bought a pretty good camera and has some talent.
Thats one to be saved, maybe a wall hanger, Grampa :congrats:
Here is a few I got from the road. Sorry about the dirty window, (the bugs are bad this year and I don't get time to clean it as often as it needs.)
This first one is in southern California.
This is in Wyoming.
This last one I'm not sure but I think it was in Nevada.
Nice.

Oops, answered this in the other thread "Above the clouds." The clouds are covering mostly steep and deep V canyons, except for the far right in each photo. The right side is a fairly narrow low coastal plain and mostly salt water in the Straits of Juan de Fuca.
Thats pretty cool, Okanagan. Something that not a lot of us ever get to see. :congrats:
Wow! That is niiiice, right up there with the best of the whole thread.
Those pics remind me of the 4 days I spent in West Virginia hunting with Frogman & wv-yoter about 5 years ago. On the last stand of the day we were high up on a piece of land that had been clear cut by the paper mills. It was just absolutely leveled. I know I was supposed to be watching for coyotes & bobcats but I just couldn't help watching the sun set that evening. Sure was a beautiful site. Just like those pics. :yoyo: :yoyo:
Whew! Psychelelidelicious! Knock out photo but it reminds me of an overcolored velvet painting! Love it!
Ohhhhhhhhh man that is so sweeeeeeeeeeeet! :jump:
That is a GREAT shot. :highclap:
Pat
Thats a good picture there.
WOW!!! Thats all I can say.
I had to come look at it again.
I'm gonna set the laptop up on the porch rail at dusk, with that picture up. Prop my feet on the rail and kick back over a cold brew.
Sunrises and sunsets in Africa are simply awe inspiring and majestic.
Very nice. I especially like the first photo.

Kinda of crappy shot here. Taken through a plexiglass storm door window. :doh2:

Those are great shots Jim. :congrats: :congrats:

Very nice. The drift pole woulda made a nice tripod too, or was it too high?
Yep, exactly the right height. That's a pro photographer comment, always looking for a steady camera rest!
Bring extra batteries when you come out here!
Had a storm roll over tonight. Everything missed us except these dramatic clouds, right at sunset.
While you guys were dissin me and my truck I was setting on the porch with my camera in one hand and the "NEW" truck keys in the other waiting to go chase it down. People were texting me to get my camera out, was I seeing this and whether or not I seen the double rainbow. I didnt see no double rainbow.
But then again these news keys are so bright the glare may have whited it out. I'm just sayin.
:nofgr: No fair Jim, using the glare from those new keys to enhance a photo. Nice pics!
Nice shots Jim! :highclap: That camera sure takes nice pictures.
Pat
WOW! Terrific photos, especially the first one!
But the best line of the year was the one about dead as Jim's truck...
There is a new measure for dead: not stone dead, dropped in its tracks etc. but dead as... :alscalls: :alscalls:
Good stuff. That last one is like a promise of things to come.
Actually sunrise on the lake yesterday morning.

That right there is a beautiful shot. I love the touch of fog on the water. :congrats:

5shots,
Where in the world is that sunset photo taken? It looks like HWY 101 north of LA on the Malibu or maybe farther up toward Santa Barbara. Great spot. Thanks for posting it.
It will probably turn out to be a lake somewhere rather than the Pacific!
Yeah!...I love the lens glare too. :congrats:

WOW, I'm impressed. I took those about 200 yards off the 101 just north of Oxnard,Ca on the state beach at Seacliff, Ca. You have obviously made that drive. Pretty isn't it?
Thought I recognized it. Yes, it is a beautiful drive. I used to park there and skin dive. Lived in Oxnard for several years. :laf:

I like the second one. The whole thing just seems so peaceful. Great shots Jim!
My new camera doesn't seem to like sunsets but thought I would add one from our campsite this week at Peninsula State Park.

oh yah :eyebrow:
Those fishing sunsets bring great memories to mind about me and my late brother, Floyd, getting ready to get after the smallmouth at Dale Hollow or Cumberland Lake. Those were some good times in the better years.
Good sunset last evening from a perspective on a saddle north of Placer Mountain, just north of the US border between Washington and BC.

Yeah, as well as the dirt on the windshield. It was actually prettier than that but in the time it took for me to get the camera app brought up and ready I had passed all the old barns that were in the foreground.

Canadian Rockies, photo taken from a logging road and this range of peaks is not visible from any paved highway. I think it is the upper Kananaskis River, which we accessed by driving up a gravel road mostly south out of Canmore, Alberta last week. A friend and I got up early and explored some back roads looking for game.

Below, a weird apostrophe cloud over Mt. Baker before sunrise a few days ago. The "lens" cloud over the summit is fairly common, but the apostrophe thing is a combination of the steam vent and wind current over the summit.

Don't know about forest fire smoke. I live in south central indiana so Im not sure.
Looks sweet regardless. Lotsa stuff going on there :eyebrow:

Yes sir
Jim,
Great image. Even the lens flare adds to this one. Of course you planned it that way - right?
Jerry
No...er uhhh, I mean YES! lol No I didn't do it on purpose :nono:
Actually that was the best out of about 20 shots. I'm learning that I have less then 10 minutes once the awesomeness starts, before it all disappears. I set bracketing up on my camera and then I get more shots in the short amount of time that I have. Like 3/1, each automatically with different aperture settings.
I'm pretty sure, YOU if anyone, is going to know exactly what I'm saying there :laf:
Yep, bracketing is your friend and you need to move fast. The other thing you might want to wait and shoot is called the 'blue hour' that starts at sunset. If there are open areas in the sky it should show a pretty decent dark blue. This is the blue that you can get, but you need your tripod.

While up north I took a sunset pic with F&F in mind as I sat overlooking a river outlet from a lake. Dead flat photo didn't capture any of the magic. Three great white swans heading south landed in the water to join me. Nice evening, lousy photo. Needed you there, Jim, to take pics!

Dang Code, you need a vertigo warning for pics like that. :whew:
Thanks.
Here's a tip on taking mountain photos: It is easier to take pics of mountains from the bottom than from the top... Compare yours with my sunrise pic in the Rockies about a dozen posts before yours.

Shes a nice one Code :eyebrow:
Thot that this series fits here better than other places. Yesterday morning a storm front came in from the Pacific and reached Mt. Baker just as the sun rose from behind the peak.
The first photo below is well before sunrise with the clouds coming from the right (west) moving inland to the left (east) toward the mountain. The point of view is looking southeast.
Soon a lens cloud formed slightly downwind of the peak, eastward of it. Sometimes these lenticular clouds form on clear days right on top of the peak, or just over it, and sometimes they form a pennant streaming downwind of the summit.
The lens cap cloud grew (below) and linked with the clouds arriving from the right side west. The wind from right to left over the mountain is picking up snow and blowing it into swirls which show as a slightly pink mist or fringe down the left side of the mountain.
The sun came up over the summit just before clouds completely covered it. Lousy photo as the camera simply could not digest the contrast of bright sun and shadow. Within minutes after this photo it was all cloudy and soon was a curtain of grey rain cutting off all view of the mountains. Still raining today. No doubt it is snowing a few hundred feet elevation above my house.

Here's one you might be up for, Jerry. This is a sunset from the same location but taken with a camera rather than a phone. Over a frozen Lake Sakakwea.

...ok im going back to bed now
I can see a difference, but being 'up for' as in getting out of bed early might be a problem. :sick2: Before I retired I would be up at 6:00 a.m. and asleep by 11:00 p.m. Now I am sleeping in till 8:15 a.m. or so and staying up till 1:30 a.m.

Do you use PB Jim?
Not too often anymore, but I do. Why?
Some of those pics are frameable is why I ask. I ordered this pic for Diane on canvas in a 30"x40" print & got it for right around the $50 mark. I had an 85% off promo code thru PB in my email. I think that last pic would look VERY nice on the wall.
Frames are super easy to make for them. I glued this one up & took the long way around. Pocket screws made the 2nd one way easier & only took about 30 minutes at most to make.
:eyebrownod: Ive thought about that before. Lately I been catching them with my cell though. They wont look too good printed. The ones I chase down with the Canon though... :eyebrow:
Thats right!! Take em with the right camera fool!! :alscalls: :alscalls:
The new promo code for 85% off at PB is LUCKY85. A 30x40 unframed canvas print is only $75 plus S&H. I think that last pic would be awesome!!
Thats a lotta cash for a pic that I can come in here and look at, and save the money for oh I dont know...a kayak anchor? :laf:
:hahaha: Sounds like somebody is putting the anchor in front of the kayak here!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :alscalls: :alscalls:

I thought to myself, I said "self...that is a helluva rough lookin road for a semi. Someone needs a grader...or at least a harrow."

To make sure everyone is following the humor, Mt. Baker
IS a volcano. It shoots up hot steam out of a big crack in the rocks near the summit, and we see the steam vent on many days. These pics were taken with a point and shoot camera out our kitchen window, to give some idea of how close we are to the mountain. I just hope it blows the other direction the next time it lets go a big one. :whew:
A couple of pics of steam coming out near the top of the mountain. Backlit by sun makes it look like flames.

Gorgeous. Makes me want to fish there. Any surface strike would b e fabulous in that orange mirror of water.
No kayak...I was on a quick short fishing fix after work Friday. It looked like it was going to cloud up and make a good sunset so I grabbed the camera when I stopped home. It didnt cloud up though, and fishing was horrible. So we played with the aperture

Looking west toward the Pacific as I drove down a Cascade Range logging road last evening on my way home from hunting deer. It was a little too dark to hand hold the slow shutter speed chosen by the auto settings so turned out more blurry than I realized. Looks like forest fire smoke but is merely clouds and fog on the coast I think.
Thats pretty cool. I love the mountain silhouettes :bowingsmilie:

Nice! Clear air and look at the jet contrails! You must be near some major airport or near one of those navigation beacons that commercial jets fly to and then make a turn to wherever they are going next from there.
I know where two of those navigation beacons are in BC. One of them is about 20 miles north of our old house in the southern Interior of BC, and flights coming in from Europe or Eastern Canada go to it and turn a bit SW for the last 200 mile leg toward Vancouver International or SeaTac in the US. I've enjoyed looking down at where we used to live near a lake and crossroads, and looking down at the pond where my old moose tree stand is, four miles from the house. When I was in Wyoming last spring, I was amazed at the constant number of contrails flying over. There is one route from SeaTac to Chicago that lets me look down at my friend's ranch from the left side of the plane. The layout of road, feedlots, barns, bunkhouse and house are distinctive enough to give a positive ID.
I dont know of any navigation beacons

Hello Fins and Fur, been a few years since I have been on here. Still alive and kicking, will be 62 soon. Online life does not really exist in our lives much, grandkids and family keep Dian and I on the move. We have expanded our vegetable garden, have two beehives going now and keep the freezer full of moose, caribou and salmon. In the past few years we have ramped up our self sufficient lifestyle. I still float hunt every September for moose and winter hunt for caribou, two of the grandkids are in training, the others have little interest in the outdoors.
Pictures are of a sunset on the Dall River where we fish for Pike and Shee Fish, I will be heading there next week for five days. Second one I set the camera up and took a picture of myself in the White Mountains hunting caribou. Only two photos allowed, will post a few more in a bit.
Hope you are all doing well, keep your powder dry.
John
