hope to see some turkey harvest pics this time next week, good luck to all my fellow turkey hunters
Ditto :congrats:
I built a site for a call maker up in New York. He's sending me turkey harvest pics everyday to add to his customer photo section.
So we know they are hauling em in over there. :eyebrow:
Whos going out this year??
I'm going out. I just gotta wait til the 21st here for it to open. :yoyo: :yoyo:
It's that time again. Anybody have any experience regarding diaphragm calls and dentures? Denture is new. Am I screwed?
I believe so, i dont know of anyone with dentures who can use a diaphram call. I would suggest a good slate call.

I wish I had dentures so I could use a diaphragm call. I cant stand that vibration tickle on the roof of my mouth. Good gawd it makes my eyes water and I want to take a wire brush to my pallet. :sarcas3:
I guess I'll just put 'em in my pocket for awhile. :laf: Might give it a go next weekend.
no pics today too many hens and too much wind, got to have an excuse two is better
Yeah 2 is better. But I only use 1 at a time & keep a couple for backups!! :laf: :laf:
ok i will be first

I need to buy my tag does that count? I like hunting the end of the season better than the front i usualy have the woods by myself.

Ok I figured out what I did wrong before^^^. This is the one that I talked into giving up.
I've seen three but none close enough to poke at. The woods are wide open with this late spring. Hard to move on 'em.
Congrats to gravesco and shaddragger. Nice birds guys. :congrats:

Congratulations shaddragger. :highclap: I really like the photo on the old equipment. :yoyo:
Pat
Spent about an hour and a half this morning trying to get this guy to come in. Curiosity eventually got the best of him and he came just a little too close for his own good. :eyebrow:

another nice bird,congrats coyote 101
Nice turkeys guys. Hope the rest of you have good luck. As for dentures and diaphragms. changing dentures can really affect you. The diaphragm has to fit right or you'll have trouble. I can use them o.k. but not as good as I did with my other dentures.
Nice one Pat. Whens supper? :eyebrow:
Way to go Pat!! Nice bird!! :yoyo: :yoyo:

Yes, and great photo also. :highclap: I've never hunted turkeys and am a little envious.
Nice looking birds.
Jerry
Congrats Pat. Knew it was only a matter of time.
Nice pic, too. Can't believe how green and tall that field is behind you.

I think that wheat is growing an inch or better a day. In another week it will likely be hard to see a turkey in it. :pout: The year before last we had a much milder winter and by this time the wheat was up to my hips. That was not a good spring turkey season.
Pat
i hate hunting turkeys around wheat after it gets about knee high it is really easy to get busted, had an old tom with 9 hens at 15 yds this morning but only had one little hole to shoot the tom through so he gets a pass today.
Nice bird, Pat! :congrats:
I never heard a peep this morning. It was 31 degrees when I left the truck. Might be a little too cold??
I'll go again tomorrow............

If you can plan a trip to Kentucky during spring season I'm sure we can get you infected with that turkey hunting disease!
Semp, that's a generous offer I'd love to take you up on. It's not likely but we never know for sure. Flew to Lexington a couple of times 6 or 8 years ago but no plans for that in the forseeable future.
Good luck in this season!
I killed this bird today. 20 lbs 8 in beard 1 in spurs. This was my second hunt of the year i got out yesterday for a little while and shot a small coyote. I went to retrive him and ran into another hunter that had just gottin permission to hunt there and tried to run me off, so i left and went to tell the neighbor what he had said. Needless to say he no longer has permission to hunt there and i didnt get any pics of the coyote.

nice bird, congrats, some of these guys forget they are just guest
Way to go riverboss! Congratulations :congrats:
Pat
Ya i shot it on my property and it ran on theirs he tried to say i didnt have permission to be on mine. Some people are just stupid. I setup next to a very thick cedar jungle today and coyotes have a denn in it. I could here the pups making a racket 2 times before i shot my turkey and after the shot i had 2 coyotes about 300 yrds away head toward the denn site wide open .

Nice bird. Not that it matters, but is the bird that black in color or was it due to the camera? It is really neat if it is that black.
Jerry
he was pretty dark
everyone makes this turkey hunting out to be tough, all i had to do is call a couple times and take a 20 min nap then wake up and there he was 20 yds, lol

That was something like my first year. Second day, put out a couple of plastic look a likes, called a few times, and in came three Jakes. Boom, down, done. Then there was year two and three. Hopefully your next bird will be as easy as your first and not like years two and three for me.
Jerry
Those are some nice birds. I see alot of southern ky hunters talking about henn'd up birds this year because of the late spring. They are about 2 weeks behind up here in the northern tip , heck the woods still havent started greening up. They are usualy about done breeding by the time season opens.

Looks like hes still roosting in that tree, gravesco lol
Way to go, Dan and gravesco! You boys are showing how its done for sure. :congrats:
On my little patch of ground there has been very little gobbling. Only a few times on the roost and then quiet. I like to run and gun but that doesn't do any good if they they don't talk. You just bump them. I've been sitting in a known area and trying to wait them out. Seen a few hens but no in range toms. The three toms I have seen wouldn't respond. I'm pretty sure they had hens close by. This has been one of the toughest seasons for me in a long long while. I can almost smell the tag soup already. But like Yogi Berra said, "It ain't over till its over." :laf:
that is right semp i have taken a lot of birds the last weekend good luck
Hang in there Johnny im sure it will improve over time. I really like hunting the last week and i usually hunt the evenings, those horny gobblers will run you over.

Sweet birds guys! Things are up and down around here, very dependant on taking the "temperature" of the birds from the reports I'm getting. Lots of different tactics being put to use this season.
Johnny I wish my foot would stop hurtin i would invite you up for a hunt! But i think ive got gout at least that is what the doc seems to think. I sure hope he is wrong.
Sent from my SCH-S738C using Tapatalk
Thanks for the invite, Dan, but I'll keep plugging along in my little patch of woods. I didn't hunt today but will go back tomorrow and give it another go.
I figure that by the time I finally get a bird (if I ever do) I will have enough money tied up in gas to have bought about 64 ButterBalls at the grocery.
Shoot one at the grocery store :eyebrow:
Looks like a few are doing well! :congrats: My first attempt was a bust, did snag a few nice crappies out of the pond though. So I didn't come home empty. Still some time left.
As for the denture. I figured the turkeys make all them noises without teeth then it's good enough for me too! :laf:
21lbs. 9" beard. Twin 1" spurs.
10:15 Friday AM just after the 3rd soaking downpour of the morning. Closed the bolt on the CZ712 this AM & there was still moisture in the action. :laf: :laf: Got it all apart & cleaned & oiled & put away today. Thanks for looking.

Way to go HaMeR! :yoyo: Congratulations to everyone who has been successful so far. :congrats: Let's keep after 'em.
Pat
nice bird hammer, keep bringin them in
:yoyo: Good job Hamer!
Way to go, Glen! Nice bird! :congrats:
Thanks guys. I had a lot of fun.
Not sure I'm gonna get my 2nd tag tho. The bird numbers here,, IMO,, seems to be down a little. Maybe from the long hard Winter. Maybe I just wasn't where they majority of the birds wanted to be. Or maybe they were there & weren't gobbling. All I know is there has been very little gobbling.
Congratulations to everybody that has scored & Best of Luck to the rest. :yoyo: :yoyo:
Way to drop the hammer!! Very nice bird Glen did Diana shoot it for you? LOL!!! Just kiddin buddy i thought id poke you before someone else.
