Alscalls and I went back out to the farm where he killed his coyote a couple weeks ago.  We got setup for our first stand at 6:15 PM.  Set up pretty much the same as last time.  Started out stand with some loud screams from my Sears Predator Call, then started Lightning Jack on the Scorpion which was set up on the same hay bales as last time.  Also did fawn distress and more rabbit distress.  We had several crows all excited with some crow sounds on the Scorpion.  10 or 12 came in kept buzzing around the decoys.  I think the Quiver Critter works for crows too, because they just would not go away and kept coming in to check out the sounds and the decoy.  Al and I were sitting in the same place as when he killed his coyote.  We were pretty much out in the open with our backs up against a thicket.  The crows didn't seem to pay much attention to us.

On our second stand between 7:30 and 8:00 PM we were just getting set up when Al spotted a groundhog in the meadow out to our right.

Here is Al:

The groundhog was just at the base of the light colored tree you can see in this photo just a little to the left of the shooting stick at the edge of the meadow:

Al said to go ahead and try him since we weren't having much response from the coyotes and it was going to get too dark to see pretty soon.  Al whistled and the groundhog stood up real nice for me.  I held dead on his chest and squeezed off the R-15 with a 60 grain V-Max behind 25 grains of Benchmark.  Here is the result . . .

The laser rangefinder said 167 yards to the tree.  Here you can see where the bullet hit him . . .

And  couple of hero shots . . .

Another great evening out hunting.  I was hoping for another coyote, but I guess I will have to settle for a whistle pig for now.

Al got a new camera for his birthday and also took some photos.  Hopefully he will post them up soon.

Yeah DD,
I guess I've been trying to make up for lost time.  I'm so fortunate to have a hunting buddy like Al who has yet to turn me down when I want to get in a hunt.  Also I know wv-yoter is chomping at the bit to get back on his feet and join us for some hunts.  His broke leg is making things tough for him.  I just love being out and about.  That's why I took up coyote hunting, it's something that keeps me out all year long.

Jim,
Just two black pieces of elastic to keep the eyehole in place.  Maybe they are supposed to go inside the mesh????  I get lazy sometime.  I bet that's why we didn't see any coyotes??   :innocentwhistle:   :madd:

ARshooter

Yup......I got gas and like it. Gas guns are coming right along. This particular Custom White Oak AR is a .50 MOA and below gun....ALL DAY LONG. The hog was taken @ 290 yards.
