Words of wisdom from a patriot and former co-worker...always liked his mindset, and this just illustrates why. Independent thinker, me thinks.

Dear Beto,

We are very different, you and I. At the end of this letter we will not be any closer to agreement, but we will understand one another better. I plan to speak as frankly as you have.

You said that I don't need that "weapon of war." You said that I don't need it to protect my family; to target shoot; to hunt. In fact, you said you would "buy back" my gun. You used the word "mandatory".

Well, Beto, you didn't sell me my rifle -- neither did the US government; neither did the American people. Your conceit, your presumptive lordship, is believing that you have the right to "buy back" what I won't sell to you, and what I did not buy from you in the first place.

Nestled there, in your turn of phrase, is the revelation of your true thinking. It demonstrates that we are miles apart in philosophy and temperament. You actually believe that my private property either belongs to you, or that it belongs to all of "us" together; and I can only keep that which you or "we" allow me to have.

I need you to fully understand that I don't believe that way -- not even just a little.

I don't care for the moment that we are talking about my rifle. You don't even have the right to "buy back" my hammer. You don't have the right to "buy back" my screwdriver. They're mine. You cannot have them. I won't sell.

Now what?

You would have to send some men to get my hammer or screwdriver from me. Or else, send some men to collect a fine; or else send some men to serve a warrant; or else send some men to seize my assets. Whatever noncompliance costs me, we both know that it won't be you. You lack the means and the temperament to enforce your tyrants impulse.

So I want you to know that I plan to use my rifles to stop the men who would come for whatever belongs to me. I say this knowing that some of those men could well be my former friends and comrades. You need to know that I will consider it a life well-spent to oppose them, even them.

I am quite serious. There is no Constitutional guarantee to own a tool set free of infringement, but even *that* you cannot have from me. If you try to buy back even a simple hammer or screwdriver on some "mandatory" basis, well then, some of those who come to collect will leave widows and orphans behind them. I would do that for a simple hammer or screwdriver, Beto. Do you understand me?

That's my temperament. That's my philosophy. See how different we are?

I am a free man. You dream of being a tyrant.

You are the sort of person who likes to pretend they are a Cherokee to get elected. You are the sort that appropriates a Mexican nickname to get votes. I am not that sort of man. I am a plain-speaking, simple man.

I consider you and your sort beneath me. Frankly, I consider you all a nest of cockroaches. Not by birth, mind you, because I believe all men can be redeemed; but by philosophy and temperament.

In short, you can't have my rifle, Beto. I won't sell it and I won't just let it be taken. I guarantee that forced compliance will cost at least two lives. I just want you to be very clear about what the true price tag of a mandatory buy back would be... Beto. Count the cost.

Good letter, you could replace his name with any of the socialist running on the "D" ticket.
When they come for mine they better bring theirs
