They're both bottom feeders :laf:
Channels have that distinct slate grey. Bullheads are yellowish brown.
It would be great to have you along fishing. But i havent fished hardly at all this year.

It's OK - the judges have disqualified you, bigben, and declared the new winner to be Okanagan with his entry of Yellow Eye, Punkin seed Perch and Flounder! He gets to take me fishing!
Here's the catfish pic if it helps. I actually think it is a hornpout. Dante looked up species in Lake Winnipesaukee last month and I remember seeing hornpout in there (I never heard of one of those, googled it and figured it was a local name for a bullhead as it looked like one to me).

We countryfolk in these parts call them hornpout. It is kind of like flatlanders and city Slickers call a ruffed grouse and we call it a Patridge. Winni is a fish factory :yoyo:
I've never heard of a hornpout in my life. Didnt even know the word existed and we got tons of catfish and bullhead.
Winnipesaukee also holds the only freshwater member of the codfish family :yoyo:...any guesses?

Burbot? The freshwater ling cod?
Yessir,we call them Cusk, strange fish and strange fishing requirements. They call them poor man's lobster because they actually do taste like lobster :

Jimbo we call em Eelpout also
Cusk. That's a new one to me, as is eelpout and hornpout. When I hung out with the Okanagans I picked up a few words and they call the freshwater burbot a spookaleetz. Some call it a devil fish.
The "traditional" Okanagan way of fishing for them is to drive a pick-up onto the ice when it is thick in winter, build a fire on the ice, chop a hole and catch them on a baited double pointed hook made from a coat hanger.
I caught a five or six pounder when trolling near the bottom for rainbow trout in Okanagan Lake. They have very firm meat, a little too firm for my preference although maybe we overcooked it, which makes some fish/seafood get rubbery.
No guys that's not a Catfish it's a Smooth skin Bass! cc
Very smoooth :eyebrownod:
I think that is the same thing we call Burbot here. Most people just call them Ling.
BTW, the original post of this thread-- identifying fish eyes -- was a great idea. Bravo! :highclap:
