i am wanting to build a 204 cal. AR.  is there a certain lower receiver i will need or will the .223 work .  Also what all types do yall have and have and have you had any problems out of certain brands.... MY last and finial question is  what would you go with a standard trigger or a 2 stage trigger

.......................thanks for info     TOPDAWG
my goal: do as much as I can, as fast as I can, for as long as I can, and at the end of the day if I'm not satisfied I will be to wore out to care

Dan Carey

The 204 is a straight forward build, it uses the same parts as the 223 except the barrel. Its a nice round and with a 35 grain bullet it is deadly on predators.
Life's tough, it's tougher if you're a nasty, fat, unemployable, drunk, socialist. To say nothing of the fact you are an embezzler.

i have been shooting the  40 gr. in the 204  and i love it all have been bang flop with no fur damage and it holds better groups

IMHO for coyote hunting you cant go wrong with an AR. Out of the box or custom built, doesn't really matter.

.204 or .223 ? I don't have any experience with the .204, but its just a matter of time till I have one. Probably from White Oak.

Ive attached a target that I shot this evening with my Compass Lake Varmint AR built by Frank White. The lower is from Bushmaster. I replaced the stock trigger with a Geissele Match Trigger. Best trigger Ive ever pulled.

You don't really need this kind of accuracy for "Real World" dog huntin, but it sure boosts your confidence. Also..I'm an accuracy NUT.

The 10 shot group (without the flier) would have measured .552. This group was shot fast, the gun was hard held, and the barrel was HOT !   All groups on the target were shot from the magazine. (Not single loaded).
All 3 groups were bench shot @ 100 Yards.

This particular gun only has about 260 rounds down the tube, so its not REALLY shooting at its full potential (IMHO). The barrel is a Krieger 20" 1-8 twist.

Whats amazing is this.  The loads I shot this evening weren't tailored for this particular gun. This baby is a hummer.

I hunt with a 700 dollar model 1 sales 16'' AR love it the only modification to it is a trigger by Dan Carey from this sight,
I have a Dteck in 223 with a 2 stage jeweled trigger,, that I yet to shoot but the gun looks to a novice ( that being me) to be well made and high quality.  I have high expectation on this gun ,,but i won the upper and it being a bull it will never see anything but range time..
my next gun will be 204 from Dan. i am hopping anyway,,, he as talk me out of my short barrel gun so i am thinking something 20 inch fluted sporter, and Then i will be looking for my long range hog and deer smoker
Danny i am thinking 338 lupa AR30,, it dont need to be a AR just accurate

ARSHOOTER ,i dont wont you to take me the wrong way pal.
nothing against your gun guy i can see he make a great gun but i am for supporting the guy on the sight is all.. Dan Carey and Mike Milli are here when i need to ask for help,,, they put the time in on getting me where i need to be with my guns  on this sight and others i hang out in and with a click of a button or a phone call  they reply with there expertise so they are my gun guys

sweet target by the way,, all i can say is poor critters

George, :yoyo:
I agree with you 100% ! Probably one of...... if not THE most important thing is a good relationship with your chosen gun smith/builder. Sounds like you certainly have that. And to have someone PERSONALLY involved in your decision making is great. Sounds to me like your right on target. You got em. Stick with em !

I  just posted my target because I was pumped and to also maybe win over some bolt gun only guys. Yes the AR15    (M16)  was originally developed for the battle field, but over these many years it's  proven itself to be perfect for target range competition, target range fun but for me personally.....the PERFECT varmint/predator gun.

I about get a case of nausea, when I see how the AR is  portrayed by the Left and  totally biased media, along with the usual left wing anti gun IDIOTS.

I even have a Brother with whom I disagree TOTALLY with on most all the political issues of our times.
I was showing him one of my guns (an Ar15 at the time) and he asked........Why do you think you need a gun like that ? My answer : I don't need it Dave.....I want it. I quit long ago trying to come up with excuses.

Well I'm ranting.........again.      Go with the 20" fluted. (JMHO)

i got a RRA 16" in 6.8SPC. does fine within 200 yards (never shot it further) but i am buying a 24" barrel for it.  had a .223 bushmaster but sold it for the new one. i hate the .223, personally.  sure do miss being able to afford ammo though.

Just curious. Why do you hate the .223 ?

If worse comes to worse and you find THE EXACT Barrel your looking for, but its a 24", have your smith cut it down to 20" and re crown. Pretty drastic but just a thought. Douglas makes a GREAT barrel for the $$.

If you already have a lower, all you need is an upper of course. You can get just an upper or a complete gun at either of the following. NOTE : These are the one Ive personally dealt with. However.....there are other good ones out there. Just have to ask around - see what others are shooting - and see if they like them. Might want to start a thread on the site like : What AR15 do you shoot and why ?
Hope Ive helped and not confused,
                                                                     Good Luck !

It just never did what i expected of it.  Not enough penetration or power.
