It was one of those weeks where all I did was "Government work".. -You know, the kind where you don't get paid!
First off, one of my sisters asks me if I could carve a knife for her son (my 13 year old nephew). Then he corners me and asks me the same thing.. What's an uncle to do.  He'll be turning 14 this month.  So I figure it'll be a birthday present.   See below.

This project was preceeded by a request from a neighbor's son and his new bride, for a sign for her parents camp.  He's a grown man now, but I can remember taking him on his first pheasant hunt when he was twelve.. A real good kid!  Figured it would be a belated wedding present.  Her fathers name is "Sonny" so that accounts for the spelling in the sign.  Did it out of a laminated 2"x 18" x 31" section of White pine. (See below).

In the meantime, another sister asks me if I could make her a curio table?  The fun never ceases!

Dave,

So, do you think your nephew will have all his fingers when he gets done playing with his new knife?  I am just asking because I can remember cutting myself on dull knives when I was younger.  That think would have left me with stubs on both arms.  It sure looks nice.

Awesome knife Dave and I'm glad you explained the sign or I would have thought wrong once again :doh2:
I say what I think not think what I say.

That knife is going to be a treasure forever!
And I fear if you give away that sign you will be bothered to make many more of them with different spellings... :eyebrownod:

I like that.
To buy something like that retail would be ungodly, this ones going to exceed even that with a completely different type of value.
Nice work Dave.

Thanks guys!  As to your comments Hawk?  I'm a little scared of the thought of my nephew cutting himself with the knife.  But he's handling firearms now, and hunting.  So I hope my fears are for naught?  They've (my nephews) have been helping my brother inlaw at his dad's butchering shop during the hunting season.  So I kind of believe they know their way around knives.
A word of advise to all:  "If you have a wood shop, and do woodworking...Don't let anyone know about it!  Particularly family and neighbors!"...

I get a chuckle out of something my friends father told me once:  "If you work for free, you'll never be out of a job!"...Ah well, I got a table I need to start working on...LOL!

Dave,

If you would do some really poor work I think the request will slow down.  At least that works for me.    :shck:
