NASA, 2 republicans voted no, they are Lugar and Voinivich.

AL, as you know Byrd has been in the hospital but came in yesterday to vote on the Defense Bill but didn't make it today. He more than likely would have voted no as did Rockefeller.

He should have the good sense to resign and let it get voted on rather than to go when he can.
I am sorry but ya gotta be smart enough to know what is an end of an era.

Thanks Blacky, these "old man eyes" are giving me fits.

MI VHNTR

What a big surprise, the two big a$$hole senators from Michigan voted against the bill. It's too bad that Detroit and the surrounding area can vote these buffoons in all of the time. Then again, it's all about the handouts.....
The Second Amendment isn't about Hunting.
It's about Freedom.

----------

The vote comes a day after the Senate completed what is probably the most controversial issue connected to the defense bill, voting 58-40 to eliminate $1.75 billion in the $680 billion bill that had been set aside for building more F-22 fighters. President Obama and Defense Secretary Robert Gates campaigned hard for removing the money, saying the Pentagon had enough F-22s and the money could be spent on more pressing defense needs.

Voinovich is more of a D than an R and has proved that countless times with his votes.  The good news is that this will be his last term and there is a possibility that we will actually elect an R that votes like an R when it comes to gun rights.

Good Post, All you guys in States with NAY voters remember next election.cc

Good post.  Alaska does not require a permit to carry concealed.  Good to see our Reps voted accordingly.

Kentucky all voted YEA.   (both are Republicans)

The Democrats will pay a price for their stupidity.

Feinstein (D-California) is big anti gun.   She has 50,000 armed gang bangers in her state and thinks the average law abiding citizen should accept being a victim.   :rolleye:

Uh Semp?

I understand your point, but you have underestimated the numbers by a bunch.   It's really much worse.

This is from an LA Community Policing article written published in 2005

CAL/GANG, a statewide database maintained by the California Department of Justice, estimates:

the city of Los Angeles is home to 463 gangs with 39,032 members

Countywide, CAL/GANG estimates there are 1,108 gangs with 85,298 members.

Keep in mind that is just Los Angeles and Los Angeles county, which does not inclued Oakland, San Diegp, and San Francisco.

But I also have to ask why we, as sportsmen and sportswomen, would stand up for an amendment to a bill that gives the federal government the power to dictate what states do,  when in almost every other case, we tell the federal government to back off, and let our states decide.

This bill flies in the face of states rights, and you could almost be assured that if passed, it would have wound up in federal court, and ultimately in front of the Supreme Court as a violation of the 10th Amendment, where if you look at past history, most likely that challenge would have been defeated.   (the Courts has only up held challenges to the 10th amendment twice), and while many of us might see that as a GOOD thing, in reality, it serves to strengthen the federal governments powers to dictate what states do by setting yet another precedent to be looked at in future cases when the federal government tries to take over states rights and usurp the 10th Amendment.

Is that what we want?   Do we really want the Federal Government to have the power to tell our state what it must do?  How many states this year wrote resolutions or amendments to their state constitutions telling the Federal Government to back off?  How many threatened to secede?  All of this was over Individual States Rights, and now we are all for the Federal Government dictating what our states must do?   Can we all say John Carey?   Flip Flop Flip Flop.

The problem we often face as gun owners is that many of us look at anything that even remotely resembles stripping us of our 2nd Amendment rights and crying foul loudly and proudly, which often times makes us look foolish and plays right into the hands of those who make the laws in Washington.

Who is to say that once the Federal Government has the power to dictate that states allow residents from other states to CCW if they meet the regulations of that state,  that they dont come along and dictate a federally mandated CCW course so that ALL states are on the same page and no one person or group (as in residents of a certain state) is not being discriminated against because their states CCW laws do not meet an others?

Are we willing to open the door that could one day lead to the federal government having the ability to restrict CCW permits by setting course schedules and fees at such unrealistic levels that CCW permits become a thing of the past?

The Dems voted against this bill because they are stupid in that they voted NAY because they hate guns.   But the Republicans who voted for it, are just as stupid and probably more dangerous because the didn't think it through.   They played into the hands of gun owners for the sole purpose of looking tough on 2nd Amendment Rights, while never looking at the big picture and actually thinking what passage of this bill might actually mean for CCW holders and state srights down the road.

And if you dont think some smart liberal dem staffer one day wouldn't have used the passage of this bill to come up with a plan to do  what I have suggested, think again.   This could have been a back door route to completely eliminating CCW permits in the United States.

I stand corrected.  My statistic on numbers of gang bangers in California is understated quite a bit it seems.

I also understand the argument on states rights.  However, concealed carry goes hand in hand with the Second Amendment and the Federal government (through the Supreme Court) rules on all of the Bill of Rights issues.  The patch work of state gun laws we have now make compliance a nightmare.

THO Game Calls

It's a true point that the patchwork of CCW laws enacted by states is bewildering.  But in reality, this bill does nothing that isn't already in place.  Most states have reciprocal carry laws.    Those laws pretty much emulate the proposed amendment.  So what is the benefit?   The Up Side?   All this amendment would have done would have been to strip states of more and more rights and put the Federal Government in more and more control of our lives.

How can we say we are for Federal intervention in our individual states autonomy when it suits us, and against it when it doesn't?

Do we really think that the Federal Government knows what is best for us?

Who said, "Government that governs best, governs least"?

As for the gang numbers - that was not a slap in your face Semp.   Most people have no clue how bad the problem really is.

Look at it like this:

80,000 gang bangers in Los Angeles County equates to about 2/3's the total size of the Marine Corps.  In just one County in one State.

That's scary.

Let me add that you make a great point about the 2nd Amendment, which grants all citizens of the US the right to keep and bear arms.

The 10th Amendment says

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

So the REAL question might be:

Where do the state derive the power to enact laws that are contrary to the rights granted to all citizens of the US by the Constitution ?

The constitution grants us the power to keep and BEAR arms?   How do states get to regulate what the Constitution says?

Perhaps, your sig line applies to law makers in a big way.
