I picked up a new chuck for the lathe & decided to try my hand at turkey calls & strikers. Here are the beginning results.
White Oak with slate over glass & Walnut with glass over glass.

Strikers. Left is carbon/Cherry. The rest are all hickory with crushed sunflower seeds & resin(2), Cedar, Kingwood, Walnut & an all Cherry striker.

2 scratch boxes. I made the boxes but one of the best turkey call makers out there made the paddles & tuned them for me.  Thank You Larry!!
Left is Walnut & Cedar. Right is a yellow/dark blue laminate & White Oak.

They don't look like first tries to me Glen. You sure you ain't been turning a few in secret?  Nice strikers too.

When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car.

:laf: :laf:  I aint sure they're gonna call a bird in yet Bill!!  :alscalls: :alscalls:

Thanks John. I made one pot call a couple years ago when I 1st got the lathe but didn't know what I was doing. It had a decent sound but zero volume. Here I guess you gotta have a toneboard too.  :innocentwhistle:   :laf:

:nofgr:  Al!! You watch your potty mouth calling me a call maker!!  :nono: :nono:  A dabbler maybe but not a maker.  :laf: :laf:

I'll be scratching on the slate call tomorrow AM right around 6:00 Jerry!!  :eyebrow:

Thanks Jim. Those are the easy part.  :laf: Just grab some hickory dowel rod & turn a topper for it & you're in. Hickory on slate might be the easiest call to learn in my limited experience.

I actually made 3 scratch boxes but gave one to Coulter. He mentioned making one some day so I gave him a pattern box.
