good work brother. much rather do metal myself, faster and easier in my opinion. only thing i hate worse than tearing off asphalt shingles is tearing of old cedar shake shingles covered in moss and dirt! I dont do roofing everyday thank god, but i say roofers dont get enough credit for the work they do.

Yah I hate paying anyone to do what I can do myself. And I know there's going to come a day that I have no choice
It cost me $150 bucks and a full week to do this. I could only work on it at night after work.
$100 for osb, half a roll of tar paper, and some drip edge.
$30 to dispose of the old shingles.
$20 for a case of beer which was payment on a roof nail gun that I borrowed from a friend.
The shingles I got from work. They were being tossed for inventory since they were discontinued. Got about 5 square left.

Im guessing to pay a crew to come in and tear this off ( two layers), sheet it and shingle it. Between $1200 and $1800. Which would include shingle cost. Whatya think HaMeR?

You're close Jim. You could roll right back into that line of work if need be. Those lines look laser straight!!

The next time I need to have my roof shingled I know who to call.  Since it was done a couple of years ago I don't think that I will need to have it done in my lifetime.  They used 30 year shingles (which means that they are good for about 15 years) but the pitch on the roof is like the side of a mountain so no water stays there.  They will probably sun rot before anything.

Jim, it does look like you did a great job on the roof and with the money you saved you can get more plastic for making lures.

We just got an estimate on our tile roof   ---   hope you're sitting down -- $30,000 -- I'm now looking for my three amigo's Juan, Jose and Miguel.  They will probably do it for $3,000 and a few taco's.
When they come for mine they better bring theirs

Holy crap John! :holdon: :puke:

Jerry, I like the way you think. More Plastisol :eyebrow: :eyebrownod:

Yeah those tile & slate roofs are mega $$$$$$$$!! The amount of labor involved is tremendous. I've been on well over 200 squares of slate just on 2 different houses & it's time consuming.

Jim, excellent work showing specialized knowledge and high skill.  My words don't convey how much I respect that.

My younger son worked for a roofing outfit his last year attending U. of Washington, full time in summer and they kept him on through the Fall part time.  Come hunting season he quit.  He told me he figured that he could get another part time job of some kind after hunting season.  When he was done hunting his roofer boss hired him back and appeared to be hiding a smile.  He and his brother roofed our house a few years later when we lived in the north end of Seattle sprawl, probably saved me 15K.  I was the gofer and ground crew but they would not let me work at anything on the roof.
