I evaluated a Kanati Tek e-caller, and here are the results.

BobbyH

Ok, so I am having a little trouble here so bear with me.

I was able to hunt several times over the past couple of weeks with a new Kanati Tek e-caller.  Their website is www.kanatiTek.com for anyones interest.  Their basic call line is very cool in my opinion.  The small call CX-1 is only $389.95 and I will tell you it packs one hell of a punch.  I hunted 3 days, and 4-5 stands each day before I had to recharge the batteries!  I even ran an extra speaker and the build in decoy most of the time as well.  This little box has a build in decoy as a upgrade--I think that is cool way cool man.  It easily fit into my coat pocket, and the remote is the best I have ever held.  NO LCD--just simple lights to idicate what file I was playin.  The whole thing works kinda like a calculator with a function key.  with that, you can control both decoy outputs, speaker balance and a whole bunch of other stuff.  There are effects to change the sound and left to right speaker volumes as well as a call stand setup.  A whole folder of files can be looped for a stand at the flick of a button on the remote!  Files are easily loaded onto a Thumb Drive (flash key as someone corrected me)  No cable  to find or worry about loosing either.  I have purchased the PX-1 after I used this little guy.  A little more money ($539.95  but it comes with a decoy and even bigger speaker.  I seriously cant believe how loud this thing sounds.  It is crystal clear as well--drove my cat nutz with the mouse squeaks in the garage.

Thats it for now.  I can give more on the PX-1 if anyone wants to here about it after I have some more fun.  This weekend should be decent weather for yotes.  Oh yea I shot a triple the second time out with the CX-1.  First one came right in and the other tow hung back a bit.  They went crawlin up and peeking over the grass, so I hit the decoy.  Holy cow, couldnt shoot fast enough but finally shot em both  not my best shooting of the year.  I dropped my camera into a creek after that so they guy at wallmart is trying to get my pics, so I can put them up here.  Maybe I will get a new camera from the ole lady for Xmas money and I can put some up from this weekend.

Keep on huntin

BobbyH,
Good info on the Kanati caller, it looks like an effective setup. What volume were you typically running your caller at? How long total would you say that the caller ran before the batteries died? Do you have a phone number for Kanati, I tried sending some questions, but have yet to receive any answers? Can you plug in an external SLA battery to the callers?  I like the looks of the CX, but am concerned about that power switch getting turned on in my pocket. Is the switch recessed, or is it just flat on the outside of that case? Thanks for the info.

Jim,
Not sure if you are talking about my post or not. If so, please PM me and let me know what's up. I seriously would like to know about the KanatiTek caller, it does look like a nifty caller, especially with the decoy in that tiny case.

So what's up?      In a prior post, BobbyH said he was getting a Kanati Tek caller as a "field test unit".  That seems to indicate he has a close relationship with Kanati Tek.   So his recommendation is kinda like a pro staffer recommending the caller of the company he represents.

The coyote killin' and camera in the creek part of the post is kind of over the top but who knows?

BobbyH,
How did you get your caller? Did you just order online and they sent you an email saying "congratulations" you get a field test unit. I'm not too sure what that means, but if it means that I get a guinea pig unit to find bugs in and then have to return the thing for various changes, I'd pass. Now if it means "HEY FREE CALLER!!!!" then I'm all about running it through the paces and sending the thing back and forth to upgrade as issues arise. Of course I'd wanna know that I was actually getting a beta version so that I could have a backup caller just in case the thing tanked.
What sounds come with that caller, I can't get the website to show any or let me listen to them either? If you loaded your own, how do the windows media files sound (wma's)? Thanks for any info.

Bobby,

Any luck on that camera ? pictures are always cool and triples are hard to come by I'm also wondering how the sound library compares to the others ? I'm getting kinda tired of messing with the speaker wire on my old cassette call and thinking about going wireless sometime soon.

Ok.......One fella....BobbyH....., shows up making 6 posts about a so called E-caller Company that seems to want nothing more than your Personal info.
Then another new member shows up ...Creek Jogger ..., and makes one post on the whole board asking about it.

There was a guy on our Ky hunting forum that dropped his camera in a creek. And he's got the guy at Wal-Mart trying to get the pics for him too.  :wo:
Wal-Mart must have specialist for that sort of mishap. :wo:

Hey, I believe him because one time just before I left for band camp I was jogging along a creek and saw "BIGFOOT" I snapped a whole 8 Gig card of pictures but when he started chasing me I was crossing a beaver dam and you guessed it I dropped my camera.  :roflmao:

Let me get this straight?  This company is selling game callers but they don't have their own sound library?  After their customers completely fill out the registration form and a "short 24-48 hour account activation period" they will receive a "FREE WILDLIFE SOUNDS" link to "free public domain files"?   Elsewhere on their site they also provide a link to "FREE DIGITAL SOUND FILE WEB SITES", again not their own. In other words for the tidy sum of $400-$700 I'm basically getting a box of electronic parts and ?

This reminds me of a duck hunting trip last year I took with one of my friends from Tech Support. One friday afternoon we managed to get a $1200 radio from work stuffed into a robo duck. On the trip back to the truck, when we were crossing the river, the duck got loose. We both saw our careers drifing down the river. Worse yet, when my buddy told his lab to get it, he gave us the FU look. We did get end up getting the duck back, but it wasn't with out getting a little wet.

Bobby, if the camera got soaked, you maybe out of luck. Sometimes strange things happen to the power supply when they get shorted like that, which goes directly to your memory card. The best thing you can do in a situation like that is to immediately pull the batteries out. I have had a couple cell phones take dips while fly fishing, and I always pull the battery out right away. Eventually I got smart enough to put them in zip locks.

edit: Also, don't put the batteries back in until you are sure it has dried out internally.
