Golfertrout, didnt want to interupt anymore of that thread....

Had my first stand of the season this morning and it was dry. Heck, I just purchased my license last week. Felt great to get out, did see plenty of deer and ducks at daybreak. I best not forget the skeeters, they got plenty to eat from me

We're just getting hot temp's now, its been a mild cool summer. I'm already hoping it cools back down.

thats cool. I went with Al and some others a month or so ago and we had some action but no fur down. I am waiting for the weather to cool down also. wont be long

I normally start calling to the gun around the end of Sep first of Oct. Until then I call to the camera.

JohnP, If that coyote right there came in on a guys blind side unseen, he could be within 30 yds and you'd never know he was there. I've often wondered how many coyotes have stood and looked at me without me knowing it. I usually hunt some pretty thick cover.

I'm with ya on that Weed.
Out in the middle of no where, you swear to god you can here light steps sneaking in, once in a while a twig snaps but there's rarely anything there.
You just KNOW, their coming in undetected.

Bobeye I don't rightly recall when that picture was taken, probably 3 maybe 4 months back. Actually had two come in and possibly a third one, not sure. They sure are curious creatures. I have had them come in to an elk cow call in the middle of the desert. I guess they are just checking to see whats making all that racket. Weedwalker, you may not want to know how many came in that you never saw, I would bet that the number would be higher than most would think.

Got these two in pretty close, maybe 20 yards. They all react differently some bolt and run as if they been shot at, other just stick around and try to figure out whats going on. These two stuck around for awhile then just turned around and walked off.

Depending on how old your eyes are you could be looking at them from 30 yards and not see them which has happened to me on more than one occasion.

I have one I'll dig out later of a coyote in a sage and mesquite setting that simple melts into the hillside. Unless you know he's there you would never see him.

Those are some real nice pics John!! Altho they would look better if there was a set of crosshairs present but real nice pics nonetheless!! You musta been using a shotgun lens.

Great pictures, John P. Thanks for sharing. I would say that Weedwalker Ed and others are dead on right about not seeing a lot of the coyotes that come in. This is especially true when you are hunting alone and using mouth calls. Bill Bynum has said several times that he believes that about 60% of the coyotes that come in are never seen. I believe that is true. That is one of the big advantages to setting up right with an ecaller and mouth calls. You have a much better chance of seeing the coyotes that respond. Obviously, the kind of country you hunt affects the % a lot.
