I have seen many soft shelled eggs in my time but never one like this.

Weird how it has the tail on it.  Anyone got any ideas on what caused this :?:
I say what I think not think what I say.

when i read the title to this thread i expected to see a pick of Al.  :roflmao:

ive gathered alot of soft shelled eggs when i was growing up( my grandma usually kept 70 or so hens and sold eggs)

looks to me like its the beginning stages of another egg. the eggs form sort of in clusters inside the hen.
she has several eggs inside her at different levels of development at all times when shes laying.
just my .02 and it might not be worth a plug nickel but thats what i figure

if they become the norm ,feeding some oyster shell to the hens should help strenghthen thei shells of the hens eggs..

alscalls

Yup ground up oyster or clam shells mixed in with the feed will help......

But I have see about every stage of an eggs development and non quite like this......they go from a small yellow yolk to a soft egg to a normal egg .....not a deflated one...... Beats me but I bet the calcium (shells) does work.

Thanks Cathryn etal, I was thinking along those lines myself but like Al said they are in all different sizes[find lots of that while butchering.  We give them all the oyster shells they need and we rarely get a soft shell and never one with a tail until now.
