Just started to hunt "Yotes" so nothing to show for it yet. I'm waiting for a prime  pelt and when I get one I'd like to have it tanned. Something I'm not up to doing. Went to a football game last year and saw two fellas with skins made into a hat type affair. One was a yote the other a red fox. My son saw me looking at them and knew what I wanted. Said, Dad I know what your thinking- you have to have one, right. The kid takes after his mom, smart. So I need some info on where I and GET some info on this. How to skin a yote and where to send the pelt. Can anyone help?

Funny you should ask. We just posted some helpful reference tips on this in the Trapping & Fur Talk Forum.

As far as where to send, you should talk to River Runner. He manages this site and runs a tannery.

Dont let Stu fool ya 1der, he's got his hand in many of fur piles too

Here's a company you can buy the pattern from for making the Mountian Man style hats you saw. http://leatherunltd.com/

I bought a set a while back. The whole process seemed fairly easy. I got about halfway finished with my first attempt, borrowed the patterns to a guy and haven't seen em since.

I don't do these for customers, but like I said you can pick the patterns up fairly cheap. As far as the hide itself. Stu or I, either one would be happy to handle the tanning part of it. I think he would anyway.....Stu?

It would be a mighty cold day in the Carolinas for I showed up at a man's website to take business from him.  :nofgr:

Now, if you was to tell me you was booked solid, Freezers filled, and was fixing to turn folks away  well I might help out if you was to ask real nice.

Besides, why settle for the rest when you can have it done by the best? :yoyo:

:laf:  I've always had a lot of respect for you Stu.  :sneer:

I'm only one guy, I can't tan everything in the world, any better then THO could sell calls to the whole world.

You just jump right in here, there's plenty of room for both of us.  :eyebrownod:

Hay, I don't want to start any fight fellows. :laf: :laf: I'm the new guy here and went to start off on the correct foot. Besides I have to shoot the dog first. Started yote hunting last year. went out just a few times before our season was over. First night, had a dog comm'in to the FoxPro when the light gave out. Bought a LightForce 170, light issue solved. The next time out, the dog came in so fast that we weren't ready, shot, missed. Third night out got busted by the DEC.( had a pack comming in). Showed the lawman my FoxPro w/JIB. He was VERY impressed. Apologized for bust'in our hunt and left. So did the pack of yotes. SOooo. When I do get the yote, I want to make a mountainman hat. I have gottin some good info from the short time at this site, and have it shortcutted on my computer desktop. When I get my 1st. yote I'll come back to this post for more info. Thanks.
