Title: Hole Hunting
Post by: FinsnFur on March 28, 2021, 05:35:32 PM
I took a hike today to find some new places to launch the kayak. I'd like to get some Northern Pike in the freezer and I know they like to hang out where these feeder Creeks run into the Mississippi River. I followed this one to the river to see if it would be worthy. Quite a hike and I ran into some interesting beaver work.
I kind of expected to see dead beavers laying there from getting hit by these trees as they tipped over. Holy crap can you imagine. You think they're smart enough to run out of the way when they finally go.  Well by the title of this thread I thought it was X-rated and then you started mentioning Beaver, but i finally figure out what it was all about  :innocentwhistle:

They are knocking over some good looking lumber .  That looks like some good trapping and waterfowl hunting country.

I haven't et Pike for quite a few years. Might be 'bout time for a trip. We've been hitting the Bluegill and Crappie. They haven't come on good yet but we've been catching a few, as well as trout.

I knew you of all people would like that LOL.
As I went around each bend in the creek I kicked up ducks. It was windy as hell that day they were hiding in the low spots out of the wind.
I can remember walking that creek frozen in February one time. I wanted to see how long it took to get to the river. Carrying my 22 250 looking for coyotes on the way.
Now that I know exactly where it is from the river side and the creek side I'm going to revisit it with the kayak. Maybe I can find some Pike at that junction while the water is still too cold for bass fishing

Looks like a great place to paddle even if there aren't any pike.  Just remember there are some trees that look to be about ready to fall.  Just paddle faster when you see them and even faster if you hear wood starting to crack.
