Okay now that's pretty cool. How'd you get him to land on your meat hook? I've been trying to get my hummingbirds to eat out of mine.

They are Canadian Jays, known for their boldness and stealing things from humans ha ha. Their other name is Camp Robbers! Chickadees are pretty easy to hand tame also.

Yep, whiskey jacks, Canada jay. They are almost fearless around humans, stealing a bite of sandwich while I'm eating it, eating bread crumbs from a hand, etc. On a hike I lightly sprinkled some crumbs on a partner's head and cap without him knowing it. He got all excited about birds swooping around his head and one landed on it.

Whiskey jacks are easy to catch. Wad soft bread into the crook of little finger and palm, and hold it out to a bird with the rest of your hand and fingers open. The natural place for the whiskey jack to land is on your index finger, so he can peck at the bread. Close your thumb to the index finger and you have the bird by its toes.

Instead of acting afraid, the jay will keep on eating, while sqawking some anger.

When we were kids we used to catch them and chickadees all the time by hand and then let them go and they would usually come right back again ha ha. My mother always loved the song birds and used to feed them and tame them and in the winter time when she would step out on the front porch she would usually get swarmed by a cloud of black capped chickadee's landing all over her trying to get food. Come to think of it my brothers and sisters did the same thing to her ha ha

Whiskey Jacks is high terrain birds, they is mountain birds.
