Title: new toy
Post by: Yotehntr on February 14, 2021, 12:34:51 PM
Went out last weekend and bought myself a retirement present...   Took it out this morning and made sure it would draw blood. It's a Christensen Arms Ridgeline in 22-250.  Carbon fiber wrapped barrel, carbon fiber stock 6.3 lbs soaking wet. lol  I haven't found anything I don't like about this gun.

This male didn't want to stop.. came in at a pretty good run, didn't like something and headed out just as fast.  My pups started barking (I have to tie them behind me these days) guess he got curious and headed back in, must’ve just planned on a "fly by" so I had to hit him on the move. I hit him a little far back so he did a spin.  (@ 124 yards)

Nice looking toy.  And dogs too.  We had a good time at LBL this year. Hope you can make it next time.

Thanks guys! Really liking this gun.

Johnny I had actually planned on at least trying to do a day trip to the LBL hunt and getting to see everyone, but trying to get retired has kept my thoughts tied up.  I was supposed to retire Feb 1st but my wonderful pension folks messed me up and I'm having to go an extra month.  I'm actually taking vacation these last 2 weeks of Feb.  I didn't realize I'd missed the camp out until it was to late.  :argh:

Congratulations on the rifle and retirement! I'm thinkin' I might need a cur sometime in the near future.

Thanks Glen!
I'm not sure if the curs get me anymore coyotes, I just know I have more fun with them.  On the occasional running shot where you don't drop them I haven't had any get away. But, before I started tying them they cost me a couple. Roi (BMC) will just stand up and watch, Dan will start barking or if he isn't tied will give chase.

Had to go out again this morning, 3rd stand I gave up turned the dogs loose stood up got my leash from the tree and was about to put it in my pocket and one cut through an opening in some cedars.  I sat down put the gun on my shooting sticks, he saw my dogs and was turning around, so I held center mass and planted another one.  183 yards, dropped like a rock, (Pups wern't real happy with me) He's been in a few recent fights, cuts on his face and neck.

That thing is sweet. What would you guess it weighs compared to a wooden stock rifle?

I think it's only a pound or so difference on just the stock Jim.  I believe a Remington BDL is about 7.5 lbs but that's on a sporter type barrel.

That's still a noticable difference. I didn't know they made rifle stocks out of carbon fiber.
Nice toy!

The Barrett Fieldcraft uses a carbon fiber stock also.  They drove the weight down into the 5. something range but the barrel seems like a pencil. I've read good things about them but I have trouble getting over the barrel diameter.
