After we went to the shooting range yesterday it was decided that we needed to go look for some groundhogs. So we loaded up the truck & headed to the green pastures that they call home. We weren't really expecting to see any with the way the wind was blowing but it was too nice to be in the house. We pulled up to the gate at the 1st field & parked in the shade. I got out the binos & The Huntress got out her Kindle.   :laf: It was a very nice day here & we just sat there for a 1/2 hour enjoying it. Then decided to move to another field. As we were leaving we seen a groundhog in the Farmers side yard by the house. This is the old house they no longer live in. The hog was at the corner so it made it a safe shot all around. Well I backed the truck up behind an old pickup & quietly got out with ol Maggie. I proceeded to thump this one with a 30gr'er from a CCI HP+V.  It was a 1/4ing away shot. One shot rolled it over on it's side & a DRT was evident by the immediate non-existence of movement.

Down the road to the next field we idled. Never really getting going too fast. Just a leisurely stroll across a nice wooded State Route with plenty of shade over it. As we rounded the corner we seen a nice hog out in the field up high. So we idled by & parked out of sight. I knew we would be busted on the way in & would have to wait for it to come back out but no big deal. I grabbed ol Maggie & threw a few in the tube & The Huntress grabbed HER 221FireBall & thre 4 in the clip. We got back to where we could get in the field & got set up. The hog made for the hole as expected. SO I moved around the back side of the hill with my chair. As I started back down over the hill along the fencerow I seen 2 heads sticking up just above the grass. No shot from where I was plus I was still a little in the line of fire from the front fortification. I hunkered down & made it down further where I was safe with the hill between us. & out of the line of fire from the front. I got settled in & almost immediately I see just a tad of brown where there had been green. Apparently this hog was curious. I could just see it's head around the eyes at about 35yds. This was where the target was set at the range a few hours earlier & I was a 1/2" low. So I settled in & let another 30gr CCI HP+V fly. SMACK & the dust rolled off this nice hog!!

Within 2 minutes of ol Maggie barking orders to stay down I hear the familiar ring of the FireBall. Seems The Huntress' hog came back out for a looksee. Well when it did there was nothing left to do but defend the front fortification!! Approximately 100yds later the 50gr BK connected with authority!!

Thanks everybody!!  :yoyo: :yoyo:

Dave-- Now that is something to ponder for sure. Maybe I need to look into that Kindle!!  :eyebrow: :eyebrow:

The 222 needed some cleaning up. Dad hadn't had her out in several years & the oil on the bolt was getting all gunked up giving it a stiff bolt. Got that all cleaned up now & lubed & it's ready to be re-sighted. Maybe tomorrow if the weather is decent.

And yes we did have a good time. I have been blessed with her company beyond my wildest imagination.

:laf: :laf: @ Jim!! He is posing alright!! But I aint never combed the hair on one those critters for a picture tho. They look quite good in the state they are laying in after the shot.  :eyebrow: :eyebrow:    :alscalls: :alscalls:

Actually that one is a very red one. I shoulda kept that hide. It's the nicest russet hog I've ever shot.
