The Huntress took this nice hog at 146yds with HER 221 FireBall.   The hat was so freshly mowed that we had to pull out of the way of the Farmer's Son so he could get to the next field.  :laf:  I didn't anymore than get the truck shut down when this one popped up. Diane uncased her rifle & loaded it as I set up the chairs & camera. She dusted this one off of the shooting sticks. It fell too far down the hole to retrieve again for pictures but I think the video tells the story.

Nice shootin Huntress!  Yeah, something creepy about reaching down in to the depths of those dens.  Even when you can plainly see them in sight.  :noway:  I pulled a "growler" out once unbeknownst to me! :doh2:  Don't want to ever do that again!

If'n you hunt a field on a consistent basis long will they turn nocturnal?
When they come for mine they better bring theirs

I think they do to a certain degree Mr. John.  But it may be the heat too. As the Summer wears on we will see them out so late we can't find them with the camera but they are plain as day in the scope. With all the coyotes around here I don't know how much they would like to be out after dark. Earlier in the Summer we see them at all different hours. I've had people tell me they don't like the heat of the day at high noon. But we've shot many of them in the hottest part of the day.

I do know one thing for sure tho. I have never had good luck finding groundhogs out before 9AM. Too bad cause we would really enjoy the earlier morning hunts.
