Bills Custom Calls

These pics were taken 2 nights ago.The young feller that took these pics said he had no idea what this was.The pics are a little hard to see all of the rack but it sure looks like an Elk to me.

These pics were taken about 1 1/2 miles from the house

Lets hear some input on this

Thanks

to large to be a Axis or Fallow and Definately not an Elk, looks like a whitetail that has obviously been eating something strange to cause that kind of antler growth.

again IMO it is a Whitetail nothing more nothing less. cool lookin deer though!

I'm thinking deer too Bill. Doesn't seem to be enough body length for an elk. Pa has elk tho & they aren't that far across the border either. I say shoot 1st & take pictures later.

Axis without a doubt.I have toyed around with a whitetail grunt call and they do respond to it.Of course the axis deer i was messing with were fenced animals.

Kinda wonder if it was a fenced critter that got out.... also wonder what your wildlife guy's view / regs are with regard to it? I never talked to my guys about axis, but generically, they are missioned and empowered to enforce/regulate 'native wildlife'. There may not even be a season [open or closed] with regard to them.... might not even need to tag it.... kinda like hogs are around me. They are viewed as ferrel and can be shot anytime w/o tags or limits, though the verbage the wildlife guys use is 'not a naitive wildlife species regulated under their authority'.

Regardless.... hopefully it will be smart enough to get out of the road..... most rednecks around here with old pickups wouldn't be hitting the brakes when they saw that rack  :nono:

I believe it's a fallow deer. Rack is right and they also come spotted. One of the deer breeds grown on farms. Ky also has the same notion on such free roaming animals, shoot it! If they can't keep it up it doesn't belong in the state. Jimmie

I'm looking at 4 texas axis bucks on the wall and I poured feed out for 25 fallow in our breeding facility this morning.  That's an axis.

State regulations vary from place to place- but most would let you shoot the animal since it's exotic or "non-native".  It definately came from a pen- and it definately has some good bloodlines.  That critter would costs a rancher anywhere from $1000-$4000 depending on market and state guidelines, a free ranging hunt in texas would costs $2,500-$4,500 for the same animal.
