With my "working from home" I've gotten a little bored and wondered if I could remember how to make calls. (been a while). I had to "readjust" a couple times but I was having fun. I made a mess of toneboards. I stepped down the air channel size for a very high pitched squeel, killer sounding to me. Doesn't do as good a ki-yi though, just something I like. Couldn't resist trying a couple Cocobola calls (I was allergic before. Crap...I still am) took some precautions but arm's and eye lids swelled up. The 1st time was worse but dang I sure like the stuff and it's hard to resist. Can't decide if I like it or Redwood burl better. I just did an oil finish on these. Mostly just having some fun.

That redwood burl is real sweet! You wear a respirator with the coco? That stuff is toxic.
If it got your eyes & hands it got your lungs. Please be careful with that stuff.

Great looking calls - ya putting them up for sale....................
Hey Brad
I'll take that "Redwood burl with a hippo tooth toneboard" call.
PM me with how much you want and where to send it.
Johnny
I like the spalted Hackberry.
They are nice Brad. I'm looking up at a few that are just as nice as I type this.
Thanks for the kind words! HaMeR... nope didn't wear a respirator.... :doh2: yep I should've but on that part I was lucky it didn't affect my lungs. On a side note it smelled like cinnamon odd huh?
I thought the oil finish would seal it up safe... woke this morning with 1/4" thick eye lids and the "crotch", of my arm (Inside of my elbow) was swelled up like a welt pretty bad. Benadryl is my best friend today. :laf:
I'm going to keep the Coco calls, I put a super glue satin finish on them today to seal the oil up. It's interesting how much (coco?) oil showed up on the paper towel I use in the CA finish process especially on the figured coco. It was 4 or 5 coats before it stopped leaching through.
I guess this is Coco oil? The less figured didn't have nearly as much.

Look at them eye lids! :alscalls:

It's been a looong time since I turned any coco. I don't remember what it smells like. That stuff is purdy but it scares me.
Brad
Got the call yesterday. Sweet! Going to have to give it a walk in the woods soon! :yoyo:
Yep Hamer, I don't think I'll turn it again... least not till next time... :laf: I think today is the 1st day I don't feel affects from it. It sure is purdy though. :eyebrow:
Johnny I'm glad you like it! Hope you slay those KY yotes with it!
Brad - Your call arrived today and it looks great and sounds great. Unfortunately, it will have to sit on the shelf until this coming fall, just to damn hot to be out in the desert.

I'm glad you like it John! ... What a cool cactus! That's a wild pic, I really like that!
I carried the family on a trip mid west several years back... had to dig up a cactus and carry it home. Had red flowers on it, prettiest thing ever, I'd never have expected.
I have/had a lot of pictures of cactus in bloom, some with a deep red flower on them. I was going to post it in this thread but it seems that my photo hosting site, Igmur, deleted them all.
Sorry double post
Missed this one
I love those Burls and Spalted woods. Nice work Brad
Thanks Jim!
