Everyonce in a while I get a spurt of folks asking how to send a private message to someone.

You can accomplish this two ways;

One- you'll more then likely be reading the persons post you want to send a private message to when you decide this. Therefore, under their name or avatar in the left hand corner of their post you see this if they are online at that moment.
And you see this if they are not.

Either way, if you click that in someones post it will take you where you need to be to send him/her a message.

Two- The other way is to click directly on their name. Anywhere on the site. That will take you to their profile page. Once on their profile page, if you scroll down you will see the text, "Send this member a personal message." Just click on that.

Say, Jim?  When I do as you instruct in #2 above, I get a message telling me an error has occurred and "Many apologies, but you can't view just any profile."  Does this mean something's broke, I don't have enough posts to my name, or I'm just a jackass.  My wife says I'm just a jackass but I'm hoping the word hasn't spread too far from home.

No your not a jackass  :laf:  at least if you are it hasn't made it out this way yet.

Viewing profiles doesn't get granted until after the new member phase, which is at 25 posts. Don't be offended, I trust you, unfortunately it's in place to avoid someone, joining, logging in, and have a spam fest the minute their in, or simply joining to get access to your profiles with no intent of hanging around.

You can still send PM's by clicking on that green icon I indicated up there though.

 Does that member have to be online to click on the icon to send the message?
Take your kids hunting and you won't have to hunt your kids!

No they dont, but as mentioned, until you reach 25 posts under your belt you wont be able to send private messages.

Jim,

Sent messages are not being saved in my Outbox.   I have the box checked to "save sent messages".  And, I also noticed that all the messages that were residing at my Inbox are gone.   Can you tell me what may be the problem?

Thanks,
JB
Protect our sport.  Act like you got some sense out there so future generations can enjoy hunting too,

They are all sitting in my box now for some reason? How dare you tell Al that about Bop!!  :shock2:

Uh, just kidding. I don't have any of your messages in my box. Just couldn't pass on a fun moment. Sorry and no real FNF'rs were harmed in this post.  :innocentwhistle:

Thats a wild one JB, never heard of such a thing.
There's only two ways for messages to disappear from your inbox.

  • One - Create a new folder and then move everything into the new folder.
  • or...Two - Delete the messages.

To bulk delete your messages, you click the empty square at the top right of your message list. That puts a check by every message below it.
Then scroll down and click on "delete selected".

Assuming you DID NOT do that, let me ask you if you see anything in your inbox when you look on the left side of your screen where it says "Labels". Is there anything in your Labels section? .....meaning directly under the word Labels.

I call BS on that one as I've deleted all of them and didn't do anything like that :argh:. I think :innocentwhistle:.
I say what I think not think what I say.

I went in and deleted a bunch of mine.  It was starting to get cluttered up.   That means I will vaguely remember something and will go back to read it and now its gone.   :laf:

I went back and deleted almost 300.......  :innocentwhistle:   :laf:
