The only doves that move slow enough for me to hit are the ones that nested in my front tree.  City birds are pretty tame, but those country birds are WILD.  On opening day I will be at Glacier National Park in Montana trying to get used to the altitude.

You have to be interested in shooting for sport, because you aren't going to kill enough doves to have Thanksgiving dinner.  Or at least not the way I shoot.  I would probably need a case of shells just to get dinner for Becky and me.

12 or 20ga Al??

Shooting at them is the fun part Jerry! Hitting them is just something that seems to happen from time to time.  :laf: :laf:  You need a couple crow hunts to get back in the swing.  :eyebrow:

12 ga. Glen .....I only buy them buy the case as I take others with me.....Kids if I can and I want them to have a good time.
Takes about 7 doves per person to be full the way we cook em Jerry.....
I usually manage 7 doves in about 9- 12 shots shooting Mod. But I have had days when 4 boxes dissipated for a limit of 15... :laf:

I only use a 20ga.  I seem to shoot that better than a 12ga. I think it's because it's lighter & swings easier for me. I do like the 12ga on crows tho.

Semp,

How did you get them all to go to sleep on your tailgate?  Are these tame squirrels or trained squirrels?

Jerry

So what ratio did you use?? Was that 4 Ambien mixed with 2 quarts of water, and 20 acorns soaked in it overnight??

All kidding aside, that is a nice mess of squirrel. Only 13 1/2 hours to go.

What a day!! Ups and downs. Day began with me taking my ruger 10-22 out of the case just before daylight, and finding out that the reticle is tilted at about 45 degrees inside the scope. Luckily I had my 12 gauge and some shot in the truck. My nephew went to the opposite side of the property from me to sit in his deer stand. He got pictures of a decent 8 point, several does and fawns, but no squirrels. I got 2 fox squirrels in about 20 minutes. (Off a maple tree of all things. Was watching some oaks nearby, and hear a squack in the tree behind me. Wierd) My nephew comes over and ends up shooting a squirrel about 70 or 80 yards away from me out of a hickory tree.

When we got back to the landowners house and he hears about my scope breaking, he goes inside and comes out with a used simmons deerfield 3x9x32 and GAVE it to me. We got it mounted and sighted in in no time. I was very impressed with his generousity.

Anyway, got enough squacks for gravy over biscuits. Broke a scope but got another. All in all a good day.
