Title: Gall bladder?
Post by: NASA on November 08, 2010, 12:00:56 PM
Didn't someone here have theirs taken out a little while back?  I NOW understand the pain a tiny gall stone can cause.  I spent last night in the ER for that reason.  It felt like Brock Lesnar punched me in the gut.  Except it didn't subside, in fact got worse.  The Docs want to take it out.  I don't want any more surgery.  I'd like to find an alternative, if there is one.  Anyone know anything?

My daughter had her gall bladder removed (about 8 months ago) shortly after her third pregnancy.  Seems that it has become somewhat of a common thing since I have heard of several others who have also had the same problem.  Not that your's is pregnancy related, but just a point of reference.  They first did a scope (and flush) of her bladder and found that there was a lot of "gravel" in there and that just flushing would not solve the problem.  They did her surgery, and the others that have been recent, by cutting slits about 3/4 of an inch and doing micro surgery.  She had it done in the morning and was home that afternoon.  No problems or complications except for the kids wanting to be held and jumping around on her stomach.  When she was relating the possible after affects (full disclosure of any and all possible things that could happen) it sounded like she was in for all sorts of problems.  Turns out that she (and others that have had the same procedure) have not had any of them.  She has no restrictions on diet and eats everything that she did before she started having the attacks.

This was my first "attack" and it scared the you know what outa' me.  I've heard there are some "holistic" treatments that eventually dissolve the stones.  Any truth to that?

The only "cure" that I know of is surgery to remove the gallbladder.    I know a couple of people that have had it done.   I was told that dissolving gall stones is pretty tough to do and takes a long time.

My X F-I-L had a book on some holsitic remedies and one of them was using fruit juices to get yourself to "pass" the stones. If I can find the book I will get you the info.

Thank you, I appreciate that.  I have also found some Chinese herbal treatments that are supposed to do the same.  I'm going to look at everything before I let them cut on me again.  That will be my last resort.  I don't have that many body parts left that they can take, lol.

I went out with a gal that had it done a few years ago. It's really no big deal Tom.
They cut two small slits maybe 3/4's of an inch just above her waist line, did what they needed to do and I picked her up that afternoon.

She even wanted to get ...  :eyebrow: ... that night, and I was like, "What are you crazy?"
She laughed and said "I had gall stones removed I'm not broken and I'm not dead". She was all of 5 foot and weighed 138 pounds...so I think you can handle it.

NASA,

I had mine removed a few years ago. They sucked it out through a small hose. An out patient deal. They sent me home within an hour after I woke up. Not a big deal. I have low blood platelet's so my belly bruised up afterwards. Looked bad, but didn't hurt. I will look up a photo of my bruised belly and be right back.

My wife had her gall bladder taken out a couple years ago and I didn't think it hurt her much, but Rich's belly hurts just looking at it.  :holdon:
Ask the doc if he can find a different entry point.  :laf:

Dang Rich.  I had a right thigh that went purple like that after an angiogram.  From the crotch to below the knee.  I'm not worried about the operation (really) I just don't like the idea of giving up any more organs.

NASA,

Your choice of course, but leaving that bad Gall bladder in there pretty much guarantees that you will suffer another attack. Hey, I have a photo of my chest zipper I could post iffen ya would like to see it.  :eyebrownod:

I had my Gall Bladder remover last fall, they did the Micro Surgery, The stones had stopped flow through my Bladder and caused my Liver and Pancreas to be highly infected, I stayed in the Hospital for a week to clear up the infection and went back in the next morning to have the surgery and went home that evening, not a big deal to have it done now days if you have the right doctor. Good luck. CC

Tom,
Please don't wait too long to get his taken care of.  Ask your doctor what can happen if your gal bladder gets to the gangrene stage. I've been there, done that... I survived but it was no fun.

Good luck!!!

Chet
