 Got out after the groundhogs Monday. Diane had a miss & so did I. But we atoned for our actions in a very modest way. Diane's 1st connection was about 100yds with the ol ot4. We had sat & waited over a 1/2hr on a hog to come back out & just stood up to move on. I had my back to the hog & when I turned around I told Diane she needed to shoot that groundhog. She got sat back down & found the furry little brown head sticking up out of the taller green hay. Crosshairs set firmly she squeezed one off. POP!!

I can't figure out how to edit the video on PB. And it's waaay too long. I forgot to shut the camera off.   :alscalls:

Yeah she opened this old females head up.

We had to get going by noon so we took off. We went back out later in the evening. Sat up on the same hog we waited on earlier. It didn't come out. When I stood up to stretch my legs I thought I caught a glimpse of gray/silver right down in front of us inside of 25yds. I grabbed the 17HMR & moved to the right & sat next to the tree line. After a couple minutes I seen a little head & a little beady eyeball eyeballing me. I planted the crosshairs & a 20gr XTP on his neck at the same time. Perimiter defensive position upheld.

After I shot that little bugger Diane seen a small hog further out & over by the tree line. She opened up a can of 204Ruger on this one too.

Caught with the goods in it's mouth.

We left for another field. One where we hadn't seen a groundhog in since mid May. As we're setting there in the truck a groundhog pops up along the woods at about 17yds. I was able to get the door open, the gun loaded, & step out of the truck between his looksees. 17gr V-Max. Perimeter breech #2 foiled.

Way to go Glen and Diane.  I'm surprised there are still groundhogs left in your area brave enough to stick their heads up!!

Jim
You can't kill 'em from the recliner!!

Two of those were younguns. They don't seem to lose their fur that young. Here is a pic of the boar I shot off the perimeter as we found him. At 1st I thought it was mange. But when I looked closer it appears to be more rubbed than mange. He still has some short fur there on his back & it has been hot & humid here.

:laf: :laf:  Yeah those 17's just don't miss very often but when they do it's definitely operator error.  :laf:  My 17HMR is my favorite round in the safe for groundhogs. Next to my 204R. Which is next to what used to be my 221FireBall. Which is next to my 22WMR. Which is next to,,,, aawww you get the idea by now right??  :eyebrow: :eyebrow:
