The word is that Appollo set up a huge retro reflector or some damn thing up there for shooting lasers to back here from earth. They use it to determine the moons movement or...something I can't remember.

But after Myth Busters did all their research a second time due to skeptics, they went to a planetarium with a laser and shot a signal to the moon in various places until they found the reflected signal to close the deal.
