Title: Colorado Pdog Ban
Post by: NASA on April 06, 2008, 08:52:23 AM
Guys, I don't know if you've heard yet, but there is a proposition before the CO Wildlife Commission that would BAN prairie dog shooting in the entire State of Colorado, including on private land. On May 1 & 2 there is a meeting in Grand Junction where the COWC will be hearing arguments against the proposal. If this passes in CO, whose State is next?

If you would like to help us fight this, PM me your email address. I will send you our Newsletter and a copy of a form letter to the Commissioners. Our little coalition of concerned hunters is strictly a grassroots effort.  We don't have a battery of lawyers helping us like the Animal Rights Activists we are fighting, have behind them.  And we don't have the support of any popular predator hunting site, either.   We do have a thread running with a lot of useful info, though.  http://www.predatormastersforums.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=52808112&an=0&page=0#52808112

We need all the support we can get to fight the bunny huggers. We want to choke the Commissioners email inbox with hundreds of letters opposing this stupid attempt to legislate a ban on small game hunting.

If you can't show up in person in GJ, then emailing our form letter and putting your name on our petition is the next best thing. But an army of varmint hunters standing in front of the Game Commissioners on May 1st is a show of force that may prove to be our best defense.

Please get involved. I did. As an added incentive, we're offering free BBQ and beer after the May 1st meeting. I hope you will join us to fight the ARA's.

Help us Save Our Sport

Damn free beer - I wish I wasn't half a continent away :madd: Is theer anything that out of staters can do? Or are the petitions and form letters only useful if done by CO residents?

Steve, one of Colorado's financial goldmine's is revenue collected from out of State hunters.   So far, we have about 30 non-res hunters that have sent in the protest form letter to the Wildlife Commissioners.  One lives in Maine and comes to CO every year, just to shoot the Pdogs!

PM or email me your email addy and I will put you on distribution for what we have accomplished so far.  Thanks for your interest and concern.

"We need all the support we can get to fight the bunny huggers. We want to choke the Commissioners email inbox with hundreds of letters opposing this stupid attempt to legislate a ban on small game hunting"

"If this passes in CO, whose State is next?"

I agree 100%

NASA,
I clicked your link but all I got was an error message:  File Not Found The requested URL was not found on this server.
Some of us here are not members of pm but this is something we, as hunters and sportsmen, all need to be a aware of and concerned about.

Can you possibly post the "useful info" here on FnF as well?

Edit: I will sticky this topic for the time being, so it will not get lost in the shuffle.

Chet

I got "File not found" too. For some reason it won't link to there from here. But it will link from the PM clubhouse thread.

Maybe this one will link to page one....

Anyway, it's under Varmint Hunting over there.

I'll PM you my address Tom.

Brad,
Thanks... that link worked for me.

I know I'm speaking to the choir here but good folks I feel we all need to get behind this.
Anti-hunting/shooting/firearms groups like to work this way... stealing our rights as sportsmen, a little at a time.  :argh: :mad3:

It has to be stopped... Your/my hunting grounds could be their next target.

Jim, Brad, and everybody..........  Just PM me your email and I can get all this info to you ASAP!

I just finished a draft of the counter-top Petition we will be puting in sporting goods stores all over CO.  But. time is running out for us.  We only have about 21 days left to pull this together.

Jim- Would F&F consider giving this petition its endorsement?  We are collecting endorsements to display on the petition as a show of solidarity in the hunting, ranching, farming, and cattle grower community.

(I was given a severe case of warts when I had the audacity to presume another board might support this cause   :nono:)

WOW!  Talk about a win-win!   :eyebrow:  I posted the link on every hunting site I belong to.

Jim, I hope you do a back-up of that petition file every night.  It would be a disaster if you didn't and it got lost (like the other day).  I'll give you a call about how to get a running count of entries and how to dump the file on a CD for print out.

Only 22 days before we go toe-to-toe with the Forest Guardians and their lawyers in Grand Junction.

Im not surprised. Trapping by using footholds and snares, other than by specially issued permits through the Game Wardens, got banned there a few years ago..

Actually every page of every site, and every database, on Fins and Fur Hosting is backed up nightly.  :eyebrownod: But the time stamp on the latest back-up was too close to the actual time I opened the petition to gain anything at that time.

I can post the results in a printable format, whenever your ready, give me a shout.

From the NRA website.  That includes NRA/ILA. Because they are not tax deductible, they CAN get involved.

Sorry, I just now saw your post.

What I was trying to say is the NRA and NRA/ILA are not tax exempt. Donations to them are not tax deductible.  So they are not barred by law from getting involved in political causes.  Does that help clarify what I said?

Semp

edited to add: The NRA is a non-profit 501 (c) (4) but donations to them are not tax deductible to the donor.  Clear as mud?

I just got back into town.  I couldn't get internet service at the Motel 6 I was at.  This is my first post on the results.
It was unanimous.  9-0 defeat.  http://www.gjsentinel.com/news/content/news/stories/2008/05/01/050208_1b_Wildlife_commission.html

:bowingsmilie:  We kicked azzzz!!

The crowd was overflowing.  They opened a divider to an ajoining room for the overflow crowd.  The State was not expecting that large of a turnout.  Traditionally, the anti's have very little opposition at these meetings.

There was between 120-130 people in attendance.  About 8-10 were wearing the ARA stickers.  The rest were there to defeat the Pdog ban.   :highclap:

The "Guardians" had 3 speakers (including their lawyer), who tried their hardest to elicit tears and compassion from a room full of cattle ranchers, sheep ranchers, hunting outfitters and guides, wheat, corn, and alfalfa farmers, trappers, land owners, and a sh!tt load of dedicated (and determined) varmint hunters.  Speaking in opposition to the ban were at least 3 representatives from each of the above groups.

The ARA's were totally unprepared for such a show of force. Every one of their lofty "arguments"  was repudiated with facts and data.  Their contention that the "majority" of  citizens of CO support the PD ban was blown out of the water when we presented 3 different stacks of signed petitions, demanding defeat of the ban, amounting to almost 8,000 signatures!   They apparently didn't think they needed evidence of their "support", as they had no signatures to present.   They were flat on their back!

Three TV station camera crews were there to "capture the drama".  Two newspaper reporters were there as well.  There were GJ Police posted at every door, and there were at least 10-12 uniformed (and armed) CDOW wardens and officers monitoring the crowd.  I don't know what, or who, prompted them to supervise the event with such a display of firepower.   Everyone was on their best behavior.  The City and CDOW LEO's were visibly supportive of the effort to defeat the ban.  Very possibly a few PD shooters behind those badges!   :eyebrownod:

This is an excellent example of what we can do! There was no "leader" or "organizer" responsible for the overall effort.   The stockmen organized themselves, as did the farmers, hunters, and outfitters.  Can you imagine the impact we could have as a unified front?  This was a "team" effort, in every sense of the word.

I'm grateful for the support and cooperation in fighting this battle.  And it is just 1 battle in the war against any and all who would try to destroy our sport and way of life.
