Announcing the 2009 FnF Bowhunt ContestContest will be broken into two categories and will run from
Sept. 13th, 09 through
Jan. 18th, 09Best PhotographCan be a photo of any bow kill harvested between the dates above. Date stamped photos are a plus. Judging will be on the aww factor of the picture. Meaning either the size of the harvested animal/s, or the setting the pic was in, or overall picture, or all of the above. looking for something that stands out from an ordinary hero shot here.
Largest Whitetail RackWill have to be photo'd obviously, but I'll ask that you include something for size reference. A tape measure legible in the pic, measuring the spread, would be best.
Must be a Whitetail dear.
This will be judged on the widest spread, so measure them at their widest point.
- The members will judge the Best Photograph, and the Largest Whitetail Rack will judge itself.
- You don't have to specify which category you want your entry in. It will pretty much dictate that itself.
- All entries must be a registered Fins and Fur member at the time the contest begins. (Sept. 13th 09) Midnight. This way no one is lurking, hops in after a massive kill and runs off with the loot, never to be seen again.
- All entries must be posted in this thread in order to be eligible.
- All entered pictures must either be time stamped via the camera, or there must be something in the photo reading "Fins and Fur 09". No photoshopped images.
PrizesOne 1st place winner will be selected for each category.
Each first place winner will receive...
- Either $50.00 cash, or $50 gift card to Cabela's or Basspro. Your choice.
- A collaborative deer grunt compliments of Bill's Custom Calls (http://billscustomcalls.net) and HuntnCarve (http://www.huntncarvecustomcalls.com/). (photos not available at the time of this post)
- A Fins and Fur cap and Decal
Good luck to all :yoyo:
[EDIT] I Forgot to add the fact that Al's Calls wanted to contribute a deer grunt to this also. Sorry Al.
Since we already pick two 1st place winners, one for each category, we'll add a third winner which will be a runner up for both existing categories and will be decided through a member vote.
1 runner up will receive...
- Either $25 cash, or $25 gift card to Cabela's or Basspro. Your choice.
- An Alscalls deergrunt
- Your choice of Fins and Fur Cap or Decal
My contest Entry
Well somone has to get this contest going
Got a chance to be in the right spot at the right time
I had to sneek up on this 8 pointer and as I waited for him to turn for the perfect shot dark wasn't to far away,as he fed his way towards me he turned and was about 20 yards away and the arrow found its mark he ran about 30 yards and down he went right in the briar patch I waited about 10 minutes after all the kicking was over, and went in and drug him out.
I had to work quickly just so there was enough light to get a few pics

Nice deer, Bill! :yoyo:
He forgot to photoshop "FNF `09`" in there Semp. :laf:
Snazzy hunting britches. :roflmao:
Congrats on the deer!
Way to go Bill :yoyo: How many can you shoot with a bow? Try calling not far from the gut pile in the morning and maybe there's a coyote there too .
Barry There won't be many coyotes out and about today with 50 mph wind gust and thunder storms, well I won't be out there to shoot at any :laf:
Fos It took me a few years to get them britches in the shape there in
Semp I guess your needing my glasses even I can see the FNF 09 on the paper :nono:
Hey I was in a hurry so I grabbed what I could and hoped it would work
Man That thing is ugly!!!

Our official bow opener starts tomorrow.......
I am killing whatever walks buy......we need the meat. :eyebrownod:
No coyote or bobcat today but this little gal showed up.
That old crossbow cut through her like a hot knife through butter.
Yeah those crossbows are wicked bad. I use an expandable broadhead & once busted 3 ribs on the offside of a nice doe on the exit.
Right on Semp !!
First one down with the crossbow :yoyo:
Congrats. :congrats:
That thing is going to be like eating candy :congrats: Nice job Bud
  :yoyo: :yoyo: :yoyo: :congrats: :congrats:
Nice Job Semp :yoyo: :yoyo:
Her udder was full of milk. My guess is she has a fawn or two running around somewhere. Seems kinda late in the year though. Maybe she was bred late. Anyone else seen this? :wo:
Oh yeah, I saw one with spots 2 weeks ago. He was raising hell in a horse pasture.

Seen one with spots in this pic first week of Oct.
And the one my buddy shot two weeks ago had full sacks.....The one I shot with a smoke pole two days later....had faint sots on it...... :eyebrownod:
Way to go Semp! :congrats: :congrats: Now you got me wanting to get a crossbow.
Pat
Great job Semp :congrats:
WTG Semp !! :highclap: :highclap: She'll be some good eatin'.
Glad to see your shoulder doing better so you can hit the woods too.
Ed
I'll be darned, ya got one w/ the X-bow.
Those X-bows are all right ain't they. :eyebrow:
Semp, way to go! :congrats: Told ya those crossbows are wicked! I passed a nice buck up last Thursday. Had him at 30 yards broadside, safety off, then I gave him a pass.. It was a little bigger than the one Bill got. But alittle too close to be sure. :innocentwhistle: I'm heading out tomorrow evening, and Wednesday morning. Hopefully one of the big boys will co-operate?
Dave
Man I'd love to get an x-bow. I wish WV would legalize them like they should. Meanwhile my compound collects dust most of the time 'cause I hate to practice much due to a torn rotator cuff and two torn ligaments in the elbow. I thought about getting the doc to sign for a permit, but it's not that I CAN"T shoot a compound, i just don't like to much anymore because it is uncomfy.
WTG Bill and Semp! Glad to see ya got some meat in the freezer!
That sounds merit enough for me! Wipe off the dust bunnies and get that X-bow you've been wantin'

How does this one look? :laf: He's a heavy 8pt with a 17-1/2" outside spread. I got him last evening with my crossbow. I was hunting out of a stand that a friend put me up in, but hadn't hunted it yet. I had been in the stand about 30 minutes when I see a doe coming in. As I watched her cautiously work her way towards me, I caught a glimpse of this boy following behind her. Behind him was the doe's two fawns of the year, and a small spike buck. When the spike got too close to the doe, the buck rushed him, and let out a "grunt". Eventually he stepped into an opening. But I waited, not quite sure if I wanted to use my buck tag on him. LOL! The doe decided something was not right, and started to work her way uphill of me. I watched as she passed by 10 yards away. The buck followed behind, but slightly further up hill trying to head her off. By now I made up my mind that I was going to take him. So when he hit a small opening about 25 yards away, and was slightly quartering away, I grunted stopping him. I aimed right behind his shoulder, figuring on a heart shot, and touched off a bolt. I watched the bolt disappear right where I was aiming! He tucked his tail, and wheeled around, and took off. I knew he was hit hard. Getting out of the stand, I walked to where he was standing. I immediately found bright red blood splashes. I could easily see where he ran, as the wet leaves were all torn up like he was dragging a plow! About 40 yards from where I hit him, I could see him laying there. My buck tag was filled!
Walking up to him there was no "ground shrinkage". He was a big Ol' boy and a real chore to move. I tagged him, dressed him out and dragged him back to the stand. I called my friend Tom (he had dropped me off at the stand, and was hunting another area). After the congratulations, he suggested hopping back into the stand and trying to fill one of my doe tags. Well after sitting there for 30 minutes, I look back on the hill, and here comes a doe following where I dragged the buck! She stops about 10 yards away quartering towards me. So I touch off a bolt at her chest, figuring to drive it right on through her vitals. She drops in her tracks, then rolls right on down the bank, coming to rest right in front of my stand. Another doe tag filled. All in all, it was a great evening!
Dave

And you were contemplating burning up your buck tag on him???!! :nono:
It's gonna be hard to beat that one...good job. :congrats:
Freezer meat. Nothing real special.
I tried to get the Big Dawg out this morning, but he was too tired and sore from basket ball practice so I left without him.
I was perusing the forum on my cell phone while sitting in my treestand when I noticed movement off to my left. I put my phone away and started getting ready. It was coyote that had just crossed a saddle and was heading for the brush. I tried some lip squeeks to no avail so after he had been gone for a while, I pulled out my THO cotton tail call and gave that a whirl. It was not to be. Not 5 minutes after I had given up on the yote, this old girl came hopping by at 10 yds, so I whacked her for some cube steak.
I was only about 3.5 miles from the house, so I hiked drove my ranger back and picked up the kids so they could learn a little about field dressing a deer. fortunatly for Big Dawg I could get the Polaris within just a few yards of the deer.

Congrats! Going to eat real good!
Cool deal Mike!! Your kids seem interested too & that's a good thing!! :yoyo:
Great looking crew to pull a hide with :highclap:. My Icelanders were amazed at how many deer they saw after blowing on a coyote call. Good job out there.
WTG!!

Tell the boy I just love his hat. :yoyo:
I was wondering if anyone would notice that. He wears alternates it with his Bengals hat except when hunting. The FnF hat gets to be the cover for hunting. :yoyo:

I'm not a bow hunter but, ANY deer with a bow is a trophy in my opinion. Nice job. :highclap: :highclap:
Pat
I don't know how I missed this thread but I did, maybe because I no longer hunt with a bow. There are some nice deer posted here. Congratulations to all. Dave this is a big rack, have you scored him and/or do you use the antlers in making your calls?
P.S. Could you direct me to the post that showed your call shelf? I remember seeing it but can't seem to find it...

BTW,
congrats to you, huntncarve, on your big buck. :yoyo:
Nice buck right there too :congrats:
Did you forget the pics were in there or what happened?
Just sort of slipped my mind. I had meant to post it shortly after getting it, but couldn't find the cable connecting the camera to the computer. Then when I found it, I was so concentrated on the kids and getting them to post their stories that I forgot about it.
Dave that buck would have put you in the running for a few nice prizes in this contest :yoyo: :highclap: well there is always next year and you will have to try for another buck
