My BIL has not Muzzaloader hunted in quite a few years and the last couple of years he could not hunt much at all due to a back surgery and a broken leg........This year it looks as though he will be able to go......

He called me and said he was going through his stuff and it seems he does not have a short starter......with the season right around the corner he wanted to know if I had an extra one??   I told him yep......no problem I will give ya one.....he said thanks.

So as I been making calls in the shop I would now and then come to a point where I would have to wait for something to dry and I was working on this a little at a time on my other lathe.......

I turned a Cherry Ball from a real old piece of fire wood I saved back......and made the rest from deer antler......
After all I would not want to give him my old spare I might loose one then I would need it.....  :laf:
Merry Christmas My friend I hope ya like it.....

Barry:  I wish I knew more about that flask.......It was my father in laws.......he had it a long time and I have had it 20 yrs. it goes hunting with me every year.....it has powder in it right now...it is metal and HD  But a lot of people seem to like it a lot......I thought they were plentiful and not a big deal......am I wrong?....
Should I not be using it?

Al I have some of them.  They aren't common but not overly rare if you know where to look.  As for using it, of course you should you use it.  The monetary value of an item used in a pastime one enjoys should never be considered.  I'm a mite opinionated I've been told but my opinion of using anything that makes you smile should be used with pride.

It was My father in Laws and I just worry that I may be damaging it buy keeping powder it it all the time.....I want it to be around till after I am gone....

I don't think you need to worry about the powder damaging it Al.  I have a can or two of single F powder in it's original can from back in the 1800's and they seem fine.  It's after the shot that this stuff becomes very hard on equipment.

Nice ball starter Al. He'll really like it. I know I would.

As far as the flask goes; Use it. In my opinion, it's monetary, historic, and nostalgic value is at it's peak when you use it and appreciate it as you obviously do.  :yoyo:
